Lemsr Proospzr, an Indian who was re- manded to jail on the 16th inst., appeared again at the Stipendiary Magistrate's Court to-day. Leine was arrested by the City Marshal for drunkenness. At the time of arrest be carried a gallon can, and the Mar- shal, desirous of knowing the contents of the vessel, asked poor ‘‘ Lo’ what it contained, and recvived the curt reply, ** Lassers.” ‘This answer did not satisty the Marshal. He opened the can and found it contained rum &s dark in color as molasses. A singular accident occurred here last night. A sailor named Laughlon, of the schooner ‘‘ Annie Frye,” on going for a drink of water, found the small cask pump frozen. He poured boiling water into it, and attempted,to suck a drink from the cask, when he inhaled the steam and died in five minutes.

Forgery. To the Editor of the Examiner,— Sirn,—The mean and villainous practice of forging letters is, I regret to tind, fast coming into prominence in certain localities in this Island. Since reading your remarks on this subject in yesterday's EXAMINER, another instance of letter forging has been brought to my notice. A letter bearing the forged signa- ture of a resident of Souris, and addressed to a certain party living in another part of the country, was, according to the showing of the Post marks, mailed at Souris Hast Post Office, on the 4th November.

A mere cowardly and contemptible action than this it would be difficult to imagine. it is well that the law provides for the accommo- dation of forgers, and in this case the culprit is better knewn than he imagines, as he will find to his cost ere long.

The Rebellion at Cape Colony.

Tur Premier of Cape Colony, telegraph- ing under date of the 20th inst., says :— ‘¢'he resources of the colony are apparently equal to the requirements for suppressing the rebellion. The colenial government has no intention of applying for imperial troops.” A despatch from Cape Town, dated the 22d inst., says :—‘‘The British Residence at Leribe, which had been twice attacked by the Basutos, has been relieved by reinforcements.”
