Psychology Society Needs Help

The Psychology society is organizing upcoming events such as a Dessert Pub Crawl and Winter Ball, anyone interested in helping out or joining the society is welcome to attend a meeting at five o’clock, Thursday in the Psychology lounge in Memorial. Any society (besides Engineering) that would like to join in planning the pub crawl is especially welcome to attend. There is going to be free food. That’s right. Free food.

History Chair Publishes “Life, Death, God, and Medicine: A Concise History of Euthanasia”

As Parliament begins discussing bill C-407, which calls for the legalization of assisted suicide, a provocative new book by an internationally-acclaimed Canadian historian of medicine is bound to inform the coming debate.

In Life, Death, God, and Medicine: A Concise History of Euthanasia (Rowman & Littlefield Publishers, 2005), UPEI history professor Ian Dowbiggin exposes the many disturbing themes that link

present and past, and traces the heated —

international controversy surrounding assisted suicide and other forms of euthanasia. Dowbiggin reminds us that the stakes in the struggle over “‘the right to die” are enormously high, with the lives of countless vulnerable people hanging in the balance.

Dr. Dowbiggin is Chair of the UPEI History Department. He is the author of four books on the history of medicine, including A Merciful End: The Euthanasia Movement in Modern America (Oxford University Press, 2003). A frequent commentator on current events and medical issues, he has been featured on C-SPAN’s Book TV and National Public Radio.

Wednesday, November 2nd, between 4PM and 6PM, will be Campus Clean-up. This event, organised by the UPEI Environmental Society, is going to be lots of fun, so do come and lend a hand. And in case you can’t think of any reasons to do so? Here are a few:

MAPUS Executive Meeting Nov 7, 2005

The next MAPUS executive meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 7, 2005 at 1:30 pm. The meeting will be held at the MAPUS lounge in Room 07 in the Main Building. As usual, all members of MAPUS are invited to attend. You are a member if you were 22 years of age or older at the time of registration or if you are taking fewer than three courses per semester. The executive will be taking nominations for the position of Vice President at the meeting.

Test Anxiety Workshops for Students, November 7,14, & 21

The Department of Student Services is sponsoring a series of three workshops designed to address the issue of test anxiety for UPEI students.
