Mr. Ohevrierb official statement to Parliament confirms reports previously published by The Guardian to the effect that re- placement of existing power units by diesels in the Island was con- templated.

The full statement by the Min- ister of Transport on Prince Ed- ward Island's railway motive pow- er follows:

"The Canadian National Rail- ways inform me that they are tak- ing steps to substitute diesel-elec- tric locomotlves for the present steam locomotives on the Island division. Apart from the econo- mies which will result, the use of diesel locomotives in place of steam power will relieve the Prince Edward Island car ferry of the. transportation of cars carrying coal ‘for locomotive use. but it will not materially reduce the number of railway employees on the Island.

Most Modern In Canada

Decision of the Canadian Nu- tlonal Railway to place diesel- powerid engines in Prince Edward Island to replace the existing power units will make the railway system of the province the most modern of any part of Canada.

CNR. officials said today they could not deny that in past years. engines that had grown old in the service in other parts of Canada were sent to the Island province to end their careers. One of the en- gines now in use on Prince Edward Island railways is more than 80 years old, they admitted.

With the new diesel power units there will be no further necessity of double-heading trains carrying heavy loads on grades. Moreover. introduction of the diesels will en-

The Bishop-elect formerly was Suffragan Bi-shop of Toronto.

Rt. Rev. Beverley was born in Dorchester, Ont., in 1884 the son of the late Rev. A. R. Beverley, former rector of St. Mark's Church, London, Ont. He was ed- ucated at Forest High School. U10 University of Toronto and Wycliffe College. In 190'! he was ordained Deacon of the Church of the Re- deemer and the following year was ordained Priest at Si. Paul's Halifax.

He became Rector of Trinity Church, Quebec City, in 1910 and nine years later he became Rec- tor of Trinity Church at Barre. Ont. In 1931 he was appointed Archdeacon of Slmcoe and in 1934 he was elected Suffragaii Bishop for Toronto. '

It is rare that a bishop is elect- ed on the second ballot, and the election of the late Archbishop Owen who died April 9. look place on the seventh ballot.
