Clear the Track!

Srm,—The early part of July last my son, with young Saunders, brought me down to the Charlottetown Hospital, where I re- mained till August 22, a patient of Dr. Stephen Jenkins. While there I under- went an operation, removing the cause of my suffering. Iam 74 years old to-day, March 24. {am ten years younger than I was three years ago. This truth is for the benefit of my fellow sufferers. I suffer no pain now, sleep well, eat like an English- man, and now enjoy life. While in the Hospital I received a fall share of kindness from all those in charge, The order of the establishment is good. My first bunch of thanks 1s to the doctors and care-takers of the Hospital, especially ‘‘the little dec,” as they callhim. I find him close to six feet. Pulling the line around his humanity, he is a six-footer, all right. My second buach of thanks is to the many friends whose syinpathy I ehared so largely. My third bunch of thanks is for the boys of Tue Examiner and Herald offices. May their best be always getting better. The Guardian boys cried ‘* dead,” then ran and left me unburied. They must have taken their toddy strong. This is my birthday (March 24, 1893) A special good thing to you, my triend.

Our farmers hail with delight the ap- pearance of spring again, as their supplies of cattle feed are very limited.

Quite « lively interest is being taken in the cheese industry in this locality; work on the cheese factory has alieady begun, and will no doubt be finished in due time.

Three of our most enterprising farmers, viz., Peter Moser, Charles Lutz, and Lemuel Publicover, are about to erect a large eaw-mill on one of the neighboring

streams. As these gentlemen are industi- eus, clever workmen, they will no doubt receive «a large share of

the public patronage. May their efforts be crowned with success.

Wm. H. Squarebriggs, Esq, arrived home from his tour through the United States, where he is about to return soon again, taking with him one of Little River's fair daughters, where they intend to make their future home.

Our school is rapidly coming to the front, asa result of the careful teaching of our popular teacher, G. D. Weatherbie. The keenest interest is being taken in the school by parents, pupils and teacher.

Mr. MeCaarthy made a long rpsech, in which he attacked the National Policy on every point, and retraced his course during his whole political life. He almost read himself into the Liberal party, but not quite. He made some astounding state- ments, and some most absurd mistakes,and it was plainly to be seen that in treating on commercial questions, Mr. McCarthy was out of his element. He was not careful as to his facts and laid himself open to be badly tripped up. On finishing his speech he proposed the resolution which you have already published, and which he stated was seconded by Mr. Hodgins. This was suf- ficient to convulse House. McCarthy iinked with Hodgius! Mr. Hodgins is one of the -incongruities of Parliament. He represents the large and wealthy coun'y of Carleton, in which Ottawa is situate, a con- stituency at one time represented by Sir Johu Macdonald. But a bear in a boat or @ bull in a china shop is about as much at home as Mr. Hodgins in Parliameut. He isa farmer | believe, but no one to look at him would ever accuse him of being an intelligent man, and the greatest merit he has divpleyed w that he has kept his moutu slut ever since he stumbled into Parliament. He is a result of the anti-Jesuit agitation. He whipped his Conservative opponent, Mr. Dickinson, because the latter had voted for the Jesuit | Bill. Hodgins is the N. K. of the House, and it is no wonder that both sides had a kink when Mr. McCarthy announced that Mr. Hodgins would second his resolution.

I wish you had room for a description of how Dr, Montague polished McCarthy off. Dr. Montague is a beautiful speaker, to whom it is a pleasure to listen. He seldom addresses the House, but when he does so it is invariably with good effect. He is a
