New Freu.—Mr. G. H. Haszard, has admitted Mr. S. C. Moore as a partner in his business, and in future the business will be conducted under the name and style of Haszard & Moore. Their advertisment appears elsewhere in tu-day's issue.

Nova Scorta Gotp.—The Halifax Mail says: A. P. McQuarrie, manager of the Montague gold mine, brought to the city to-day a splendid specimen of gold bearing quartz, said to be the finest lot taken from the mine. The lot is valued at $1,200.

Erwortu Lsacve.—The members are requested to meet in the church parlor at tight o'clock to-night. All attendants of the Methodist churches will be included as new members, and would do well to attend to-night, and be organized for the winter's work.

He Sroce $300,000.—On Friday night last, William H. Schreiber, who robbed the First National Bank, of Columbus, Ind., of $300,000, turned over to the bank officials all his ill gotten gains. He will plead guilty and ask mercy. All money not wasted by Schrieber is invested in real estate in Michigan, near Detroit, and is said to be wortn $150,000.

Avotuer Encusaman Disarrears.—lIlt is stated that a young Englishman named Thomas Veitch, left Fenelon Township, Ontario, nearly a year ago for Australia, via San Francisco. His mother in England has written to friends in Fenelon asking as tohis whereabouts. Inquiry shows that he never sailed from San Francisco and fears are entertained that he has met with foul

play.

Trouble inja Charch. Toronto, Oct. 6.

The actions of Vicar-General, Roony at yesterday's service in St. Mary’s Church, caused considerable hostile comment among the cougregation. Last Sunday week the Vicar-General announced that there would be a special collection on the Sunday fol- lowing, for the education of Canadians for the priesthood. Yesterday at both masses he told the congregation that he did not want their five and ten cent pieces, they could keep them, when two or three per- sons started to leave the church. He ordered the doors to be locked until the collection was taken up, and even followed the collectors around to watch that each one contributed. Quite a num- ber who had come prepared to put a quarter or a fifty cent piece into the plate, got so indignant that they refused to con- tribute anything.

Irish Affairs. Dustin, Oct. 6.

A conference of Lrish Nationalists, called by Parnell, was held to-day. Part of the business of the conference was the selection of a deputation to visit America for the purpose of laying before the people a plain statement of the situation of affairs in Ire- land. John Dillon, William O’Brien, Thomas Power O'Connor, Timothy Sulli- van and Abraham Gill were appointed to form the deputation.

One hundred Hussars and 350 extra po- licemen have arrived at Clonmel. It is be- lieved that their presence is due to the fears of the Government that a_ collision may occur betwcen the Berkshire and Eighteenth Regiments, both of which are quartered.in the town.

Arrested on Suspicion.

Moncton, Oct. 6.

Gardiner and Burrows, the tramps arrested on Saturday on suspicion of being concerned in the train wrecking near Anagance last Monday were brovght before Stipendiary Wortman to-day and examined separately. They denied being near the scene of the wreck cn the day in question. They have not yet been identified, but have been re- manded awaiting the evidence of trainmen and others.

The Mormon Conference.

Sar Lake, Utah, Oct. 6.

The General Conference of the Church of the Latter Day Saints this morning unani- mously adopted a manifesto forbidding in future marriages in violation of the laws of the land. It re-adopted the original articles of faith, among which is this: ‘‘ We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers and magistrates, and in obeying, honoring and sustaining the law.”

Snow in New Brunswick.

Moncton, Oct. 6. About two inches of snow fell at New- castle to-day, also a flurry at Goggins, Albert County, and a slight flurry in Moncton.
