Boston, March 28, A girl belonging to Nova Scotia, named Elizabeth Castine, was almost murdered here by her negro lover, a maa named Cunningham.

Cunningham then attempted to commit suicide. It is thought that both will re-

Concert at Hunter River.

The concert in connection with the Methodist social at Hunter River on Thurs- day night was a decided success, financially and otherwise. The building was filled with an appreciative audience, and the best of order prevailed. Frederick Horne, Esq., of Milton, occupied the chair. The choir rendered excellent music, each per- son’s part being performed in a manner that would do credit to professionals. The gem ot the evening was the singing of the duet **Dear Old Home” by Masters Walter and James Waye, and ‘My Mother's Prayer” by Misses Sarah May and Bete McLeod. Mrs.G H. McGuigaa gave evi- dence of her musical abilities in her render- ing of some beautiful selections of instru- mentai music. Mr. C. P. Fletcher, of Charlottetown, is always a favorite with a Hunter River audience, and his organ and cornet solos delighted everybody. In fact, the whole proceedings were of a very high order, and everybody seemed well pleased with the evening's entertainment. The committee desire to return thanks to Rich- ard Baguall, Esq., who kindly placed his large warehouse at their disposal for the occasion; to Joseph Wise and William Mc- Coubrey, Esqs , who disposed of the bas- kets; and to all those who in any way con- tributed towards making up the handsome sum of $70.
