The SUN has been accused of being the same as the CADRE. It is not!

We, the Staff of the SUN, are all inexperienced. Some of us have worked on the CADRE but that is the same as being inexperienced. One must realize that novices in any field make mistakes. We are making mistakes; in fact, we are making many mistakes.ln this respect the SUN is the same as the CADRE.

Where, then, lies the dif- ference? The SUN is trying to learn from its mistakes; we are trying to improve with every issue. The CADRE never really improved. it was the same allyear long. It made few attempts at self-improve- ment.

This doesn't mean the SUN will be a better paper than the CADRE, but at least we will have tried to make it better. No one should ask for

more.

The SUN would like to ex- press their apologies to Cheryl Cannon concerning the article on the S.U.C. meeting. Once again we experienced lay- out problems. We hacked up what was a very good article. it will not happen again, Cheryl. Please forgive us.

The Editor of the SUN pro- mises that this paper will not have a single head-line all year concerning either unem- ployment statistics or the cost-of-living. He challenges all other editors in the Prov- ince, in all media, to make the same pledge on the grounds that after almost #0 years of continuous rises in prices, cost-of-living increases can no longer be news, and b) after over 20 years of continwing high le- vel unemployment, that can no longer be news either.

The article in the second edition concerning the presidential candidates had no place in a responsible newspaper. It was strictly speculative and sensationa- list, bearing no relationship to the reality of the situ- ation.

The Selection Committee realized the gravity of their job and laboured over it.

Your article not only belittled the intelligence of the people who made the decision by suggesting that the criterion was as uneducated as you portrayed, but it also unjustly attacked the caliber of the applicants all of whom were eminently qualified.

“truth” regarding the search

and it cast dark shadows on the' reputations of several fine men-- not to speak of the Search

Committee, which would have to have

been pretty dumb to act on the perceptions you ascribe to it. Most of this article is
