He Wont Work.—Mre. Erost, of Brant, Ont,, has laid a complaiat before Mr. McNam ara, J. P, charging her son, Joseph, with refusing to work, He is a young man of about 20 years of age, and according io his mother’s story has never been cf any use exci ps to meal time. She seemed to be imprissed with the degtrine of the chief apostle that “if any map sil! sot labor, neither shall he eat.” His Worship remanded him to jail for a couple of days o give him an opportunity of sampling prison fare, after which he will receive his trial,

Comtxc FRoM THE States — Says the Calgary Herald ot Nov. 23d: Ihe train for the north this morning Carried a large number of passengers, among whom were some 30 dele- gates from the states of Washington and J tabo, who, having beard much of northern Alberta as a desirab!e home for settlers, are here for the purpose of selecting lands upon which to settle. They are a fine {class of men and are all well todo. Some of them have brought their stock and effects along, and will not return to the States, the balance, however, after th-y have chusea a location, wi.l go back, returning to Alberta in the spring with theic families and possessions. Twenty more d«l gates from Washington state arrived ia Calgary this morniog. They wil! go north on Thursday. Says the Vancouver Neéws- Advertiser: A large number of farmers from Washington state have this year emigrated to Alberta by this route (the Columbia and Kootenay Navigation company), and last week
