Granting but one hit but beaten 6 to 4 was the tough luck exper- ienced by Bruce McCallum An- chor hurler last evening as the Hawks, taking advantage of nine errors by their opponents captured the opening game of the semi- final play offs of the Industrial Baseball League.

Four errors in the first innings led to three runs, two of them unearned with the winners adding one in the third and then a. mlitup between the first and second base- man in‘ the fourth gave the Hawks their final two counters.

Anchors collected nine safe blows off Stewart's deliveries but the Hawks’ hurler's mates were ac- cording hlrn goocl support that off- set the blows. They threatened to blow up in the eighth when three of their four errors put the losers within striking distance but settled down in time to nip the rally.

NEW YORK, Aug '7—-New York Giants continued the subjugation of their National neighbors, Brook- lyn Dodgers, here today but they had to come from behind to win 6-4 on one mighty swat by Travis Jackson-and some fine relief pitch- ing by Carl Hubbell. The victory increased the Giants‘ lead to four games as the Cubs lost to Pitts- burgh.

Jacksons blow, a hard liner which went for a triple when it bounded off the right field wall, came with the bases loaded in the seventh and produced the Winning runs. Hubbell got credit for his 16th vlctoty, relieving Johliny Sal- veson in the sixth, but his streak of scoreless pitching was halted after 24 1-3 innings when the Dodgers scored in the eighth.

NEW YORK, Aug. 7. — After ex- tending their winning streak to five straight games with a ninth-inning rally that netted them a 4-3 victory in the first game of a doubleheader today at Washuigton, the Yankees were mowed down by Washington's slugging attack in the second e11- counter and lost 6-3.

The defeat cost the Yanks a half- game in their pennant race with De- troit Tigers, leaving tlicm a game and a half behind Mickey Cocliranes victorious club.
