Aftercoming out of the convuisioa, which they tell me usually laeted trom fifteen to thirty minutes, I would wake with a dull, heavy feeling, and all the muscles of my body would be sore. This would pass away and in a day or two l could attend tomy farm work, but strange to say every four mouths after as reguiar as a clock I would be seized with a fit, which always came on inthe night. Various doctors and spec- ialists were consulted and I took several different medicines, but without effectinga cure. Several doctora said the dieease was incurable. The Atmeosphefic Clock.

The atmospheric clock—a sort of de- vice that goos of itself—is not inaptly termed a perpetual hourglass. In ap- pearance it is likea long thermometer with the bulb of mercury at the bot- tom. The glass tube is about three- eighths of an inch in diametcr and se- cured to the frame by two bands through which it passes easily. The divisions of time are ma¥ked on each side of the tube. Inside the glags tube is a smaller tube shaped very much as an hourglass. Some meronry anda scrap of biotting paper for the purpose of taking up any moisture that might gather in the tube are placed at each end.

The mercury in the top end of the tube is placed opposite the mark cf the proper time and falls to the bottom of the tube exactly as the time passes When it has ran out from the top, the frame can beturned and the mercury set to time on the other side. Thus it registers the seconds and hours quite as accurately av any other timepiece—the draw back to such an arrangement being, ef course, the turning of the frame, a task as irksome as that of wiading a glock. —Exchange.

There is need for as much cleanliness as can be practised avd attained. there is no benefit from the aeration of milk in the stable during the winter. By the aeration of milk, either or both of two reeulte are affected, a little of the odour, or cause of the odour in the milk from volatile oils, is taken out, and germs of all kinds from the air are taken iv. There is oothing in the air of an ordinary cow atable which by getting intothe milk caa prove it. Therefore the lees contact the milk has with it tue better. There is no natu ral volatile odour from milk which makes it unsuitable for butter making, uoless the cow bas been fed on some food unsuitable in that respect such as turnips; and sera- tion will remove only # very unimportan’ partof that. The socalled cow smell of pure clean milk, becomes a delicious fragrance, whereas the cowy smell which coms from stable fi'thiness, manure aod other things is abominable.”

A Disappearing Bualiseye.

The Chinese peasant wears a turban, loose coat and short and very baggy trousers, all of blue. The Chinese xol- dier wears the same, with an overall sleeveless smock, or long waistcoat but- toning on the right sboulder, edged round the neck, arms and skirt and down the front with broad ‘‘facings.”’ The breast and back are decorated with a one foot bullseye with characters on it. This is all the character the Chinese soldier possesses.

The bullseye would be a very conven- jent mark for an enemy if the Chinese soldier would give the latter a chance of shooting him, but the bullseye is only worn to raise false hopes, for no sooner does he arrive dangerously near the ene- my than he doffs the garb of war to appear as an innocent civiliav. He is usually armed with a muzzle loader or standard, both equally barmless weap- ons.

The Keund Robin.

The ‘‘round robin’’ had its origin Several centuries ago 1m France.

It waa used there by officers of the army asa method of expressing their dissatisfaction with the course of the king or his ministers. By signing ina circular form the leaders of tho move- ment could not be ascertained and sin- gled out for punishment.

The first instance on record of the use of this form of protest in the navy oc- gurred in 1625. At the instigation of the Duke of Buckingham, the king’s favorite, an English floet, under Ad- miral Bennington, was dispatched to Rochelle to assist in the coercion of the Protestant gabjects of Louis XIII of France. But the English tars, in com- mon with their fellow countrymen, locked with favor upon the resistance of their coreligionists against the pros- elyting zeal of the French king, and they signed a ‘‘rouud robin,’’ express- ing their determiuation not to five a shot against them, and without waiting for a reply they weighed anchor and brought their ships back to England. The admiral, however, received a per- emptory order to return to Dieppe,

whereupon the whole of the crews quit- |
