| Sim,—A number of people are talking about a lecture, showing the advantages of | this country against those of the far West. lam no talker, no lecturer, nor have I | tume, if | was, to prepare one, but I would like to tell every farmer on the Island that I fool to sell out here and

live in luxury compared with those of other places, their houses and outbuilding are far shead of those in the west. 1 have been asked by people, ** What is the outlook for this Island?" Inanswer, [ don’t kno-v,

but thmk if our Government went to a little more expense—they are doing some good through Prof. Harcourt—

to show up the advantages of this Province, and try to counteract the work of the Canad- ian Poscitic and other railways, in securing and publishing information, showing the farmers—for they are the backbone and every- ching of any country—that they are better off here than elsewhere it would do a great deal of good. Take the numbers of those who have sold out and kit for the west and retarned, get their opinions and you will ace that every person (with very few exceptions) they met with while on their travels would be glad to get back again if they could. Of course &@ great many young men have done well, but I claim—and they will tell you that, bad they worked as hard and lived as economical at home they would have Leen just as weil off and saved guite as much money—in proportion to the valu: of r:oney—aa they have out there. Our farmers now-a-days want to live too well, and if their more prosperoua seighbor gets a buggy, or the son gets a suit ef fancy store clothes, the wife or daughter a fur sack, the other man must do the same, and in many cases, sad co ssy, incur a debt that they can never get clear of, for one thing leads to another and fiaaily the crash comes and all is lust. An Educational Difficulty Settled.

Sia,—Mach praise ie due our efficient Superintendent of Education for the masteriy manner in which he grappled with and settl- ed an unpleasant difficulty under which the ratepayers of Mount Pleasant School District nave been laboring for some time past. Meet- ing after meeting had been c.lled with a view of settling the matter, but with no effect. Finally the Superintendent was sent for and another meeting called, which threatened at tirst to share the the fate of its predecesaora,. The contending elements seemed to be irre. concilable, and the breach growing wider and wider, until the Superintendent, with rare tact and judgment, explained a way out of the difficulty, which at once satisfied both parties, and the business of the district was resumed and brought to a very satifactory conclusion. A waanimons vote cf thanks was tendered Prof McLeod for the able and business like manner in which he settled the difficulty, after which the meeting adjourned, ail realizing that a master mind was guiding our Educational Department.
