old pioneers, Mr. Peter McPhee, who, after six months’ illness, peacefully passed away on the moraing of Jane 10th, at the ripe old age of 77 years, Deceased was a prosperous far- mer, being ener of an industrious 4i - ition, which ti ai: of character was avagiben - ed and encouraged by the prudent counsel of his partner in life. He succeeded in accumu- lating considerable means which he judicious- ly invested from time to time in landed property within a short distance of the home- stead, and on which he had the pleasure of seeing, before his death, three of his sons comtortably settled. He was the father of five sons and three daughters. Personally, he was hospitable, genial and considerate to the sick and affiicted, humane and generous. His remains were followed to St. James’ Church by the largest concourse seen in that locality for many years, A uiem mass was cele- brated by the Rev. Francis J. McDonald, with Rev. Charles McDonald as deacon, and Rev, Stephen Phelan as sub-deacon,. From

Dundas Notes.
In your issue of the 20th inst.,|I observed notes from the thriving viilage of Cardigan Bridge, which are absolutely truthful. Of course, in this village of Dundas we cannot boast of so many resident M. P. P.’s and M. L. C’s, but we boast of a good trade aud « smart business. We have a branch of the Caledonian Club established; we have four or five stores doing a thriving busi- ness, a tailoring establishment, a carriage factory, two hotels, good schools, good churches and eloquent clergymen. We have a veekly trip of the steamer Eldon, with her obliging captain, Mr. Williams. What we want now, and must have before long, is a daily mail. I think that we are ‘entitled to it as well as other places that are enjoying it.
The Upton settlement wants a tri-weekly mail, and it is due to them to get it, as urgent business requires it,
The Scott Act prosecutor, Mr. Nichol- son, is doing his very best to root out the liquor traffic. Ifhe only could get the J. P.’s to work in harmony with him, he could put on a bold face towards Montague Bridge and face the lions in their dens.

Mrs. Archibald McCormack, of Narrows Creek, is past her 103rd year, and is now hale and hearty, can spin and knit, as well and as smart as ever. She was born in Sectland. Her eyesight is good and clear.

Newton Cross Notes.
The crops in this vicinity are in a flourish- ing cordition, and promise to be prolific. In- deed, all the cereals and roct crops seem to have had a good start except the hay crop, which ought to be out in head at present.
The annual school meeting in this district was held on Tuesday, June 19th, as appoint- ed. The retiring trustee was James Cody, Esq., and James Roche was elected in his place. The staff of Trustees now are James Cody, James Roche and ,George McPherson, with John Poor, Esq., as Secretary. Mr. Patrick J, Bolger, who was the teacher in this School for the year ending June 30th, is also appointed for the ensuing year.
