Highways Minister Stresses Need For Careful Driving

J. George MacKay. minister of highways stressed that, “Snow and ice add very greatly to the necesdty of extrrme caution by all drivers. at all times.”

Former Islander Dies In Mass.

Arthur R. Haywood, 71, for- merly of 8 Hancock St., died re- cently in [The Veterans Hospital in Northampton.

He was a motorman for the former Worcester Consolidated Street Railway Co., and Worces-

Mr. Haywood ran the trolley. on the Greenwood Street line for many years, and before retiring in 1936 he was on the Lake Shore line.

Born in Elmsdale, Prince Ed- ward Island, a son of the late Robert and Charlotte (Hardy) Haywood, he had lived in Wor- cester for many years before go- ing to Northamption in 1937.

He was a member of Worces- ter Lodge of Odd Fellows, and the Amalgamated Association of Street, Electric Railway and Motor Coach EmployES of Ameri- ca, Div. 22.

He leave a sister. Mrs. Ella J. Cheeseman of Richﬁord, Vt., and a brother, Edward Haywood in Charlottetown, P.E.I.

Mr. Haywood was a veteran of World War I, serving with the 9th Co. 1515t Depot Brigade, as a sergeant.

Funeral services were held lb the Putnam Funeral Parlors.

The Rev. R. Lewis Jones offici- ated. Burial was in Hope ceme- tery.
