A vroLenr storm, accompanied by heavy rain, beganjsb ortly after one o clock this morn- ing, and still continues. It is feared that much damage is or will be done to the numer- ous crafts which are now arcund the coast. Reports fromthe country districts say the country districts say. the storm did much damage to outbuildings, etc. ‘Trees are up- rooted, and in severa! places lie across the road. The vessels in port ate as yet free from accident.

Messrs. TreMArIne & Mereacr have intro- duced into the city, quite a new idea in the way ofa sign board, which, if more generally adopted, will give a relief te the present flat and squatty appearance of some of their best building, their success in this undertaking is doubt owing to the genius of Mr. John New- son, the designer and painter. We cannot give any description of it, but would draw the attention of our readers to the enterprise of the above named firm and tradesman.

Tue schooner “Carrie F. Butler,’’ Parsons master, went ashore on Rustico Bar during the gale this morning. She left Rustico with tiree hundrel barrels of mackerel on board; but the water was low she could not cross the Bar and she weighed anchor inside. Shortly after midnight the storm came on, and she was blown high up on the west side of the bar. The crew abandoned her at two e’clock this morning. They had much difficulty in getting on shore, as the seas washed rapidly over the vessel and boat as they left. The ‘Carrie F. Butler” is owned in Gloucester, Mass. She is now ful! of water, and is a total loss. The mackerel will probably be saved.
