Railway Smash Up in the Dark. Toronto, Sept. 25.
Three Pullman cars and the private car of Chref Engineer Hannaford, of the Grand frank express for Montreal and Boston, left the track near Pickering Station last night, owing to a broken frog, and went over an embankment twenty-tive feet high. At the time of the accident it was very dark, and rain was pouring in torrente. he crash of the ears and the screams of the passengers in the darkness were terrible. The thames burned Haunaferd’s coach, and communicated to the Pullman, but was there arrested. Strange to relate, only some dozen of persons were injured, none fatally. No was killed, and many absolutely escaped without a scratch. One coach was smashed into kindling wood. The damage to the track and rolling stock 13 estlinated at $100,000

The Journal De St. Petersburg states Rassia has joined with the other Powers in objecting to the suspension of the Egyptian Sinking Fund, and the Russian Govern- ment kas expressed to England their regret that Enyland did not consult the other Powers before deciding to authorize such
a step. _ Rassia is about to build two iron-clad Sebastapol. These wi'l serve as a nucelus
for her future fleet in the Black Sea.
Lynch Law.
BrookHaven, Miss., Sept. 21. Last night a mob of forty men visited Franklin County jail, overpowered the jailer, and took out four negro prisoners and lynched them to trees in the court house yard.
Viroetta City, Morlana, Sept. 25. The todies of two horse thieves were discovered suspended from a tram on Poplar River yesterday. This makes thirty-seven thieves lynched by vigilantes this season.

A Disastrous Fire.
Pitrsecre, Pa., Sept. 25. A disastrous fire broke out on the south side, at half-past ten to-night, and at mid- night was still raging. Abell Smith & Co’.s extensive glass works, together with Robinsen & Co’.s machine shops and five frame buildings have already been con- sumed, and itis feared the flames will get beyond control, Fortunately the wind is light. The loss so far is estimated at $200,000.

Diplomatic representatives of Germany, Austria and Russia called separately upon Numbar Pasha, Prime Minister, to-day, and presented an identical note tohim., In this the powers make a formal protest against the action of the Egyptian Govern- ment in diverting the revenues set apart for the sinking fund to the general Egyp- tlan treasury.
Franco-Chinese Difficulty.

The Times’ special from Shanghai says the German Government has instructed its Consuls and Naval Commanders to maintain an independent attitude during the con- tinuance of the Franco-Chinese difficulties. It is feared, however, that complications may arise which may prevent German neutrality.

The British steamer Lake Champlain, which left Quebec on the 11th of Septem- ber, sunk at her dock here, last night, a sea-cock having been left open. The water in her is fuurteen feet deep.
