OrprsaTion.—An ordination service was held yesterday morning in the Bishop's Chapei, when the Revds. D. H. Hind and R. D. Bambrick were admitted te the order of Priesthood. The Archdeacon preached the sermon and ‘the Revds. Messrs. Padfield, Wilson and Wiley assisted at the service. The newly ordained priests return to their charges itameniately, the first to Georgetown, P. E. 1., and the latter to St. Peter’s Church, Charlottetown. Rev. R. D. Bambrick preached in St. Luke’s Cathedral on Sunday evening. —-Halifax Herald.

P. EK. Istanp Strowaway.—The Halifax ‘* Herald ” of Monday says: On the arrival ef the *‘ Carroll” on Sunday morning from Charlottetown, Capt. Wright gave in charge to the police a young man giving the name

of Peter Hughes, alias Monaghan, for being stowaway on board of his boat. Hughes acknowledged havin stowed away, and that he iatendea

oing in the steamer to Boston had he not een discovered. His story is that he was unhappy at heme on aceount of the death of his father and his mether’s re-marrying. He only wanted to get away from ‘‘the tight little island” and try to earn a living for himself away from home.

Inqunst.—An inquest was, yesterday, held en the body of John Stewart, pedlar, which was found Heating in the river near the head ef Rocky Point wharf on Sunday morning. The evidence taken shows that the deceased crossed to Rocky Point on Saturday evening in the Ferry Boat. He was the worse of liquor at the time, and on landing remained ustil dark at the house of Mr. Wm. H. Lund. Mr. Lund asked him where he was going te put up for the night. Stewart said at Widow McKinnon’s. On Leaving Mr. Lund’s after dark, it is sapposed he mistook the direc- tion of the widow's and walked over the wharf. The jury returned the fellowing verdict:— “That the deceased, John Stewart, pedlar, came to his death by mistaking the road on leaving Wm. H. Lund’s residence after dark and by walking over Rocky Point wharf and was drowned.” The body of the deceased was floated by the peddling pack, consisting ofa small box which was strapped te his

DESTRUCTIVE GALES— MANY VESSELS LOST OR SERIOUSLY DAMAGED BY THE STORM- LIST OF DISASTERS—NEWFOUNDLAND'S EASTERN COAST STREWN WITH WRECKS.

Sr. Jown’s, N. F., Nov. 25.

A terrific gale of west-north-west wind has been blowing across the island during the past four days, and has worked appal- ling destruction to shipping in several har- bers along our eastern seaboard. Tele- grams are coming in every hour from the seenes of disaster.

PETAILS OF DISASTER.

So far the loss of twenty-one vessels has been announced. . At King’s Cove the schooner Blink Bonnie dragged her anchors out of the harbor and was dashed on Red Head and became a total wreck. in Bona- vista harbor fourteen vessels were totally destroyed and sunk or otherwise fatally damaged er driven ashore on the beach. Of this fleet the names of the Pearl, Paragon, Penguin, Pride of the Ocean and James Charles have alone been given by wire. Most of these vessels were either laden with

general carge awaiting discharge or were loading codfish for shipment to St. John’s. At Barensea the schooners Morning Star, Haligonian and Saint Patrick have succumbed _ to the gale and become total wrecks. At

Lance Cove, in Trinity Bay, one schooner named the Victory was completely van. quished by the ruthless gale. . Six schoon- ers— the Dove, Test, and four whose names have not yet come to hand —are counted in the long list of destruction near the port of Old Pelican, on the north side of Concep- tion Bay. There is little doubt that we have heard of a merefraction of the ship- ping disasters up to date. The fact that in many directions the telegraph lines have been blown down during the gale accounts for the meagre intelligence in our posses- sion of one of the mest dismal records of marine disasters that ever occurred on our coasts. In most cases the lost vessels were covered by insurance, but in the main the cargoes on board were, unfortunately, un- insured, NO LOSS OF LIFE.

One redeeming feature amid these scenes of wreck and ruin is the total absence of loss of life so far as we are yet informed, Although many lives must have been in great peril not one drowning case has so far been reported. Several wrecks are re- ported at Green Bay, but nothing definite is yet known.

MANY CRAFT EXPOSED TO THE STORM,

Between twenty and thirty vessels left for northern ports shortly before the storm commenced, and it is feared that many of them were lost with all hands on board.

On the 17th inst., as Mr. McLeod was standing on the end of a tree. which was balanced on another, a third one fell on the butt of the one on which he was stand- ing, throwing him some twelve or fifteen feet in the air, he fell on his neck and back, he re- maine! for five days ina paralysed condition.
