Tnere are‘large tracts of rich farm lands but a few miles from thie place, in the Province of Quebec as well as oa the On- tario side of the lake, of which I mean to write specially so suon as I collate data. I will de so in the columns of L’Impartial, Tignieh, as the eectiers are exclasively French oo the eaxt side of the lake, and, rom what I have seen, having spent the Sith of May tourisg the Township of Guiges in this cointy of Pontiac that ! terminates oaly at the North pole.

At so great @ di-tance from the battles ground of P. E, I. politics I cannot be expected te say much,nor would I likely reter to such, but for two special reasons viz:

1. I am ever anxious and deeply inter- ested in the welfare of the Island and the good name of its people, and always, until recently, fouad it both a pleasure and a duty to defend Islanders against wrong charges, as being an intelligent, law abiding and highly culsivated Christian peop.e, living underthe best and freest and best-appiied form of government, and ite people being a very loyal family, easily in advance of the people geverally in the provinces of Quebec and Ontario. But, alas, I am no longer able to success- fully convince even an Ootario back woods man, nay not even the hab:tant of Quebec lozated on the shores of these frigid waters, that the people of P. EI. excel in any way, or that a wise govern- ment rules that provioce, or that tbe government and the people are either intelligent or loyal, not even peaceful,

Being the only Islander here and tavir y & position in an uodertaking that emp vy lavor largely aod coming ta dwly (som- times hourly) contact with employes and othere from the outside, Tam often ap pealed to as one likely to be better pos'ed in the Ieland affairs, its government and people than are those who know ecarcrly apything of the province, and natil now heard little of its history.

Recently a general spirit of enquiry bas seized the people, even in this distant lone-land, because of having read in mostly all the newepapere paregraphs referring to the stormy, sud believed to be most extraordinary and unconsutution- al actions and unseemly procedure aod rulings of vour very evenly balanced Gov- ernment. The fistic antics of the Premier, the coarse handling of an M. P. P., the uveouth, if not disloyal attitude, of Minis- ters of the Crown, Government supporters and Firet Commoner alike, goes far to prove,to say the leasi that the Island Leg- islature is tainted with a pro Boerieh spirit that outdistances the 14th century style of governing or putto shame the black republic of Hayti, where aesult so often takes the place of arguments.

For the first time in my life I have felt ashamed; when asked by people (who are less intelligent than Islandere,) are the people in P. E.1., really disloyal or are they uncivilized. If not why overstep parliamentary etiquette and peaeefal de. corum as they do? Such questions and false impressions by many (and often) is whatI bave to combat as it is a fact that the P. E. Island Legislature 1900 episode hae with many people far outweighed the South Afr=)1 war sews in point of importance, and erpecially do our French peighbors take interest im the Pineau phese of the question, now so well krown a!] over Canadas. Our Frezch people here feel deeply disgraced at Pineau’s de- ception and rascally action. With a few others of his ilk in Canada, he is held by the French here tobe the sole cause of much disgrace to his race and people. They (the French people here) judge bim to be false and dishonest, unwortny of con- fidence ; a veritable traitor.

I could wisn, because of fond memory for’ my island home and friends, that matters were different.
