Mr. Jonn F. Powers has remeved to the commoedious and convenient premises on Queen street, next door to Mr. W. D. Stewart's saleroom, where he intends te carry on barber- ing in all the modern styles of the tonsorial art. In addition to the barber business, Mr, Power is doing a trade in tobacco and cigars. Smokers wi!l find on the premises a choice selection of material at moderate prices.

News of the sai death of Jehn McKinnon, farmer, comes to us to-day. The deceased had been drinking in this city on Tuesday, and on that evening left with his team to go home. He had a small flask of liquor on his person when last seer. By drinking this, it is sup- posed, he became stupified and, when a-half mile from Rocky-Point Wharf, fell off his sleigh and perished inthe storm. His body was found on We inesday, a considerable dis- tance from the track. It was frozen quite stiff. The deceased was unmarried and about thirty-one years of age.

The Mutiny on the Donovaro.

Full details of the terrible mutiny on board the Italian bark Francisco Donovaro, are now published. It appears that Pedro Gregore Arene and Antonio Aredundo, natives of Manila, formed the plan of murdering the crew and stealing alarge sum of money which they believed to be on board. They hoped to reach the Antilles in a small boat with their booty. The attempt was made on the night of the 4th instant, Arene beginning the bloody work by stabbing the mate Ponchatti. The latter was able to stagger to the cabin. While pursuing Ponchatti, Arene aaw Eduardo Arrato lying in his bunk and stabbed him, but not fatally. Arrato then added his cries to those of Ponchatti. In the mean time Aredundo went down into the forecastle and felt his way to the berth of Sebastian Aquarome, the cook, who lay sleep- ing quietly. I'he mutineer plunged his sheath- knife into the breast of the cook, who expired ten minutes afterward, but not without a cry which alarmed Antonio Marchisia, the -oat-: swain, who lay in his berth near by. He grappled with \redundo, and a struggle ensu- ed, in which the boatswaim was fatally wound- ed; Immediately after this Captain Ferrardo reached the deck and promptly shot down the mutineers. Aredundo died instantly, but Arene lived long enough to make a confession. The bodies of tlie dead men were committed to She waters.

Saran’s Sepuctive Wiies.—At a dance in the Sevent!: Ward, in Salt Lake City the other night, tle bishop expressed himself highly displeased with the round dances. He said that it was condemned by the priest- heod, and if the saints could not get along without round dances they had better go home. The young people remonstrated with him, but all to no purpose. “If you must waltz, let me show you how to do it,” ssid he, and he got on the floor with a 183-pound blende. The band struck up the “* Blue Danube,” and down the hall glided the bishop and the blonde. The tips \ef her fingers touched his and a cruel cold lspace between them. This was the Church method—the arms-length waltz. Soon there was a slight contraction of the arms and the space between them gradually decreased. Presently one arm encircled the fair form. The blonde was the first to give way, and her cheek looked like a sunflower in a tur- nip field as it rested on the shoulder of the Bishop. Round and round they went, and tho fascinating, weird-like strains floated like heavenly music to his soul. For-

Flocds occurred on Sunday on the Island of St. Kitts, by which over 100 lives were lost. Property to the extent of a quarter of a million was destroyed, and the whole Island devastated. The floeds originated in Mcunt Misery, and swept down in tor- rents suddenly into the town of Bassi- terre, and carrying with it trees, timbers and branches of trees and ships also added to the terrors. The sugar canes were levelled or torn up,~ the reads gullied, sugar houses and dwelling places borne bodily away to the sea with their freight of drewned cattle and struggling human beings and quantities of provisions, and all the sugar ready for shipment, were swept away. Earnest appeals are made for help’ St. Kitts has known no auch cala- mity since 1722.
