We had breakfast at half-past eight and the whole iorenoon freetoroam about the camp. We visited a num- ber of the foreign and colonial Scouts and had interesting talks and were shown‘ how they did things. Every- where we went, Scouting was run on pretty much the same lines as our own. The Scout Law predominated and usefulness insisted-on. What struck me most was that not one camp we visited but one or more could speak English. The others made themselves understood largely by signs. I am sure now that Icould go anywhere in the world and make myself understood without much dif- ficulty. A lot of the fellows swapped souvenirs in the shape oi buttons, badges. stars, etc. As I arn thinking oi going to Aberdeen if 1 can manage it, I decided not to part with any of 1111114 till I returned. I heard that another Scout irom the West had got permission to leave camp for Ab- erdeen, so I am going to try and get sway also. I visited the Aberdeen contingent and inquired the cost of the return railway tare, and was told it was a little over £3. I Just have £4. Mr. lfilliter, Dick's father. had arranged for us to have £5 in travel- lers‘ cheques, and flvhas already gone. I resolved to risk it, and try my luck. In the afternoon we had the grand rally and Pageant of Nations, after which I went to the Commissioner and made my request for leave. To my surprise he immediately granted it», provided I was back in time for the Canadian tour. I hurried to the Scot- tish csmp to find out when the Ab- Irdonians were returning’ (the Scot- tish Scouts came in relays for sw-eek each.)
