Villiam, it appears, had a Newfoundland dog which committed some trivial offence, Whether or not he received a fair trial we are not aware, but at any rate he was sentenced to death by drowning. The railway breast- work was the scene of the execution, and Wm. surrounded by a dozen dirty-faced urchins, acted as executioner, a la Marwood, de- ceased. He fastened a rope, to which a heavy stone was attached at one end, around the poor dog’s body. Then without

much ceremony he consigned dog, stone and rope to the waves. nfortu- nately for the dog and Wiliiam’s reputation a8 a successful ex- eoutioner the rope was just long enough to allow the dog’s nose above water and admit of a strugg'e for existence. Exasperated at the stubborness with which ‘‘Towser” fought for life, and at the falling tide which gave the dog an advantage, William seized @ pole and pounded the unfortunate canine until he, ghoked with water and gore with bruises, expired. Maxine rr Livery For LopsTeR Packers. —The Inspector of Fisheries for Nova Scotia has been making it lively for lobster packers, recently having imposed a fine of $100 on one McDonald, of Argyle, in Yarmouth County, for packing in close season; and a few days ago he put a $200 fine on a son of the late Mayylower man at Ingonish, C. B., for a very aggravated offence, and Baker paid over.

A Difference iu Scales.

‘difference which exists in the scales on Pownal Wharf and the Market Scales. I bought a Barrister cold from Mr. D. W. Martin, of Brackley Point Road, for the stock farm at St. Turse, near Chambley, Que. I weighed the colt on Pownal Wharf scales, and received a ticket showing his weight to be 1,065 A gentleman having expressed doubt of the colt being so heavy, bet a trifle that 1,065 was his correct weight. We therefore tested his weight on the market scales, and | received a ticket showing his weight to be 1,057 lbs., or eight pounds less than when weighed at Pownal wharf, ten or fifteen minutes previous. Now, as there must be something wrong, I advise those who have produce to sell by weight, to enquire which 18 incorrect, and have the scales adjusted before more than a trifling bit is lost.
