A. Dixon, Esq.,M A., of Sackville, N B. The last ot the Talks given on Thursday evening evening was conaucted by W A Hickman, Eeq, of Pictou. NS, the eubject was Birds of North America. Io a most interesting talk Mr. Hickm:n, who has studied the birds in their native haunts, treated of the various orders speaking of their habite, manner of pocuriog a liveli- hood ete. He gave special directions for distinguishing the difftrent orders, drew diagrams of bill, claw, wing,etc. Mr.

bird known in the Maritime Provinces to accemplish which he has travelled up- wards of 6000 miles ina year, 3000 of which he bas been on foot.

Subjects that have received a great deal of attention this year at theschool have been physivlogy and hygiene. The instrac-~ tor in these sutjects was S.A Starratt, Esq. of Yarmouth, N. S. Mr. Starrett has the excellent quality,in an instructor, of not teiling much, bat eucceeds in getting his students to find out for themselves. He leads along the line of investigation they do the research.

A mere mention of the subjects consid- ered in each lesson well give an idea of the scope and practicability of the work undertaken. They were as follews:

I. Composition and growth ef the body,

Il. Water, usesand importance quaptity required and jsources of supply, im- purities and purification.

IIL. Food. adulteration, diet, milk, dis- eares connected with food.

A Ceytenaniay.—Mrs. Ann Arseneau,of the Joggins Mines, is the oldest woman in Cumberland county, if not in the province. She wos 104 years old in May and has all her faculties. She does not wear spectacles and can thread a needle as well as sbe could forty years ago. She was born in Peticcdiac.
