From your VP Operations: Welcome Back!

On behalf of everyone at the Student Union, a sincere welcome back is extended to all stu- dents and a Happy New Year to each of you. Now that it’s a brand new year, there are lots of exciting events planned at the Student Union.

The first event of the new year will be the comedy duo of Lambert and James, appear- ing Thursday, January 14, 1988 in the Panther Lounge. Lambert and James, as well as being comedians, as also superb singers and are guar- anteed to get everybody rockin’ with their act.

The highlight of the semester will be the an- nual UPEI Winter Carnival which will run from ‘January 24 to 30. As of right now there is not a set schedule of events. It is however, con- firmed that the Band FM (with Nash the Slash) will be performing Tuesday January 26. Origi- nally it was planned that David Wilcox would be appearing, but, unfortunately Dave must be in England this month filming a video. Sorry to all Wilcox fans but FM promises to be a super time live at the Barn. This will be the Main Event of the Carnival and probably the only one of the semester, so get your tickets early. They will go on sale Monday, January 18, 1988 for the low cost of just $5.00. Hope to see everyone out for this bash.

Also scheduled for Carnival ’88 is Tony Quinn and the Campus Comedy Cabaret, in the Pan- ther Lounge on Thusday, January 28. Campus Comedy was a big success last year with our own Gordie Cox walking off with top honours. If there are any. students out there who have al- ways wanted to be a stand-up comedian, this is your big chance, so don’t miss the Cabaret.

In conjunction with the Carnival ’88 the Lounge will be open all week, offering you, the students some of the best prices and specials in town. Be sure to drop down with your friends and celebrate the new year or shake off your win- ter blues in the Panther Lounge.

Finally, good luck to all students this semester with your studies. It is our hope. here at the Student Union that ’88 will be a happy and successful year for all. Hope to see you at the Barn.
