GOV BRN MENT REPORTS

The government reports have been tabled with the exception of the Public Accounts. which is pro- mised early this week. The ro- ports of the Commission of Agrl culture and the Chief Superin- tendent of Education were laid on the table Friday.

The Agrlcultuml report deals with General Conditions of farm lng in the pr0VlllCe which “not- withstanding the general down- ward trend of prices and the re adjustment of conditions to a pre- war stators" resulted in “a succes- full year for the farmers."

"The work begun in 1920" com vprlses the discovery and mnnI-Iiflci ure of limestone at Miminigash. The limestone is said to have test ed 85 per cent oi carbonate of lime. A pu-lverizer has been installed and already a. sufficient quamlts of first class material has been delivered to satisfy the iocaiide- Imand and the hope is held out that “from the quantity available ' some shipments can be made ‘b7 rail to outside points should the demand arise.’ .

The inauguration of the Agricul tural and Technical school is re- ferred to. Although a “financial statement" is given it is somewhat disappointing to find that there ls no reference whatever to the cost (if/this school or to the reven ue derived from it. We are inform cd that the total enrolment for the first tlwo months was 105 of wlhom thirty one attended the day classes and seventy four the niglrt classes. "The night classes". co-l tinues the report" are made up for ‘the most par-t of boys and young men who live and work in the city. The classics most largely at tended are motor "mechanics and wireless telegrapljy." The bran- ches taught are ‘English, Maths matics. motor nrs-hanics, wood;- work. animal and lileld ‘husbandry.

Just how many ‘of the students

are from the rural sections and are studying real agriculture,“ and how many are boys from the city, a‘ not stated. Fuller particulars on these points will ‘no doubt be ell- cited ln the cnudse of the discus- sion on the reports. From the uioagre lnlformaftion given in the (Zommlssloners report practically nothing can be gleaned as to where this school stands in re- lation to the farm and the far mers son. or as to who-t the school has cost or la going to coat the province. The report on the whole, gives a general idea of the progress of agriculture during the year wllh little that is new excepting the inauguration of the Agricultural Hugh School. which ‘is very incom- plete and Hlililears to be moré tech nical lihnn agricultural. the lime- stone ‘quarry at Mlminigasb and the importation of clover h-uliers. .No explanation has been given as_ to Iwihy the technical school has been lplaced under the department of Agriculture and not under the Department of Education. There would lbs just as much justlflcal ion in placing the roads under the department or education as placing the technical education un der agriculture and both are sub sidlzed under a forty- sixty basis.
