Tourist Report Considered by S'Side Board

Following their adopted prcced. ure of considering the annual ra- ports of the various committees each month, the Sunlmerside Board of Trade last night discussed the report of the tourist committee.

Mr. Vaughan Groom, chairman oi the ccmsnittee, read the report of the nsstyears activities and outlined the various recommendat- ions made.

Mr. Groom dealt in with the proposed infonnailon booth to be erected for the con- venience oi tourists and it was felt that the most apprwpqiato plagg would"bc at Reads Corner, It was Sllsgested that the booth might be opened at Dewar; garage but the committee painted out that better service could be givon the public if this office was entirely removed from the premises of any private enterprise.

The committee in charge gave their assurance that the matter would be followed up and that a more complete report would be available when the estimates were brought down in the Provincial Legislature.

Pills Joint Meeting

The president Mr. T. E. Hickey. C.A. announced that there would be a joint meeting of the Associ- ated Boards oi Trade in Summer- side to discuss the matter of the proposed Trans Canada Highway.

Mr. Fred Bell was asked by the president toascertaln the plans of the Provincial Government regard- ing the proposed route of tilc high- way so that this information would be available at the joint meeting.

Some discussion took place re- garding the plan to erect a new hotel in Summerside but due to the illness of the chairman; M-r. A. R. Brennan. no further steps were taken last night.

Mr. lllokey read a letter from the Canadian Chamber oi Com- merce advising that Mr. Ralph Rawsthome. assistant manager of the field service of the Chamber of Commerce would be in Summer- side on March 24th. It was decided that a. supper meeting would be held at the Olympia. on t/hls oo- caslon.

The president also read a letter frcm the Chamber of Commerce requesting that this Board sponsor a program of the local station en- titled "Canadian Heritage" and l0 offer prises to school children for the best essay on the subject mat- Ier in the program. Prince tounly- a Digging Oul After Storm

Digging out after the snow storm occupied most of the resi- dents oi Summerslde and Prince County yesterday. The plows had operated all day Wednesday and hed succeeded in keeping most of the streets open for auto service. however, it took most of the day yesterday before the horse-drawn plows operating on the sidewalks got the footpaths passable for ped- estrian travel.

The plows of the Department of Highways succeeded in opening the highway to O'Leary and in to Wellingtonand Tyne Valley. How- ever, they were not so successful east of Summerside but: it was hoped that by working all night the road to Kenslngton would be open this morning. By last even- ing plows and bulldozers working eastward had not reached Reed's Corner, about three miles frcm town. However, a plow which started from Kensington had made better headway and had reached Travellers Rest.
