PRINCE OF WALES’ ACOIDENT: |

Lord Rothschild's Statement.

Baron Rothschild thus described tie accident: | was in my dressing room when I was informed that the prinse had met with anaccident. He was going down to breakfast by the wert stair case when bis foot slipped off the edge of one of the steps, severely twisting the tend ns of one knee. His servant assisted him down the remaining steps to the west ga'lery where he complained of great paio.

“I was immediately eummoned, and fouod him sitting down, evidently suifzring severely, but quite patient.

“Fortunately a trained nurse was in the honse attending a relative of mine who is an iovalid, and she snpplied remedies

for.

“The doctor arrived in about a qtarter Of an hour, and, having examined the prince’s knee, enjoined complete rest. The doctor bandaged it up and the prince lay down until the afternoon, during which time the swelliag increased, but the pain gradually subsided.

“The privce was then taken in an in- valid chair to the carriage and was driven several miles to Aylesbury, where he took a special train to Londone He never complained, his ovly anxiety being about the possibility of the accident interfering with the fulfilment of his many public engagements to which his time is so largely devoted.

“Dr. Shaw, who attended the Prince at

Waddesdon, declared that he must rest at al! costs, but that with his powerful con-. stitution be should hope to be all right in a short time. “Tt was a most disagreeable termination to a very pleasant visit. Fortunately the injury was not serious, but it is trouble~ some, and in view of the Prince’s ex- tremely active habits, the enforced rest is certain tu be very irksome to him.”

SCENE OF EHE ACCIDENT.

The staircase on which the prince met with his mishap is one of two sweeping circular staircases, one at each end. The Waddesdon stairs are carpeted with thick, deep red felt. It appears that the prince was looking at the charming view out of

the windows as he descended and so} missed bis footing. The staircases are | modcled on these of the Chateau of }

Chenonceaux, and ere considered the most beautiful examples of architecture of the kind ia Kaglan,

Caxapian Hams.—The Montreal French Chamber of Commerce has written a letter to the Minister of Commerce at Paris concerning the curing of Canadian hams with borax, and asking that euch hams be allowed to enter France in the future, for consumption, after being freed of the borax that is necessary to enable them to keep during the Ocean voyage.
