The Moosepath Races,

BLACK PILOT A WENNER.

_ The biggest crowd for many years patron- ized the races at Moosepath Diiving Park yesterday. The three minute class was contested by three horses. Mr. George A. Dockendorff’s stallion, Black Pilot, won it in three straight heats. The best time made was 2.51. Koox Lass, of Sussex, was second, and Tom Morris third. As Black Pilot made a record of 2.33 at Bangor, a protest was entered against his start in the race.

The colt race had five starters. Maud F. of St. John, won in two straight heats in 3.13 and 308, with Conductor, of Fred- ericton second, and the Moncton colt, Curt- mont, third. In the free-for-all race, Young Dexter, Lady Bashaw and Flying Dutchman,of St. John, Helena,of Amherst,

Edward Bonner, of St. Stephen’s, and Li ng John, of Truro, started. Helena won in three straight heats. The best time

being 2,37, third,

The stallion Rampart gave an exhibition between final heats of this race in a 2.40 clip.

The match between the Wanderers and the St. John Club was concluded yesterday. Time was called before the second innings of the St. John team was finished. The match was decided in favor of the Wander- ers who made 140 runs while the St. John men made 73. In the second innings the Wanderers made 145, and the St. John men 43, with five out.

A Bold Attempt to Enter Woolwich Magazine _ Lonpon, Sept. 12.

Two men last night approached a sentry on duty at the powder magazine at Wool- wich, and before he could give an alarm they seized and beat him in a brutal man- ner, leaving him half dead at his post. They then attempted to enter the magazine, but becoming alarmed at some noise in the vicinity, decampad.

The Russo-Afghan Froutier.

The report that Russia and England have signed a protocol, delineating the Rasso- Afghan frontier, is confirmed. The Afghan Frontier Commission will meet in. Novem- ber and complete the details. M. Tassar, special Russian Commissioner, will return to St. Petersburg on Sunday, his commis- sion being ended.

The Puritan and Genesta. New York, Sept. 12.

There was another disappointment in the race between the Puritan and Genesta yes- terday. Owing to the lack ef wind the race could not be finigbed in seven hours. The yachts were towed in and the race was ordered to be started again to-day.

Hatheway, Lancaster, on the occasion of the marriage of her daughter, Miss Gertruce A. S. Hatheway, and Charles H. Adams, now of Troy, N. Y’, and formerly of St. John. The ceremony was _ performed by Rev. C H. Hatheway, A. B., brother of the bride. The bride was attended by Miss Moore, Miss Holly, Miss Clara Quinton and Miss Atherton, avd the groom was supported by George McAvity, E. C. Moore, John Moore and J. C. Hatheway. The bride wore a beautiful satin dress and looked very pretty. The bridesmaids were also attired in white. The presents were numerous and beautiful. The happy couple leave this morning for P. E. I., and pro- ceed thence to Quebec and thence to Sara- toga. They have the good wishes of hosts of friends for their fatare happiness and prosperity. —St. John Sun.

Upon this site it is the intention of the railway depart- ment to erect a general passenger and freight station, so as to accommodate the traffic on the Dartmouth extension. As the tannery building is ordered to be moved by the purchaser within ten days after the date of sale, it is to be presumed that the work of erecting the uew depot will be begun without delay.—Halifar Herald.
