{4 sap accident occurred at Georgetown on Saturday evening last, as a result of which a 9-year old boy named Thomas Cherry lost his life. About 6.45 that even- ing, as the train was backing down to the wharf, young Cherry, who lives on Water Street, near the crossing, ran out and at- tempted to mount the steps of the baggage car the train was passing. While so doing he sipped in the snow and fell

between the outside railand adrift. He was caught by the flanger and dragged some distance: his left leg was badly crushed from the thigh to the ankle, his left hand seriously cut, and he received internal injuries. The fange- man heard the lad’s cries and_ the train was at once stopped, When

Cherry was picked up he was conscious, Dr. Kaye was summoned, and the lad was removed to his house near by. Every- thing possible was done to alleviate his suffering, but all to no avail; and he died six hours after the accident. No blame is attached to the trainmen for the accident. The snow was drifting heavily at the time, and no one saw the lad trying to get on board ; the first intimation they had that anything was wrong was hearing the cries. It is to be hoped that the sad fate of poor little Cherry will bea warning <o other boys, and old people as well, against board- ing trains while they are in motion.
