The steamer was crowded as was also the steamer Jacques Cartier which left the steam Navigation Co’s Wharf at 1030am. Besides this, numbers have driven to the gathering and there is a Jarge attendance of people from the settlements in the neighborhood of Orwell.

The roads have been made #0 narrow by the local mud machine that it is almost impossible for two teams to pass one another. If they continue using this machine here for any length of time, the consequence w ill be that there will be noth- ing left of what was once a good carriage road, but a narrow foot-path. The bridges are in a disgraceful condition. The one below White’s Mills, isan eyesore to the travelling — and a disgrace to the Government. Hugbes bridge is in a dilap- itated condition, the few planks that were laid lengthwise over it by one of the faith- fal, being so high above the road that it is dangerous to drive over it with a carriage, le sst you bethrown out. The railing on the

As with these, so it is with neariy all the bridges on both sides of the river. If the C. P.
