Senate met for the fifth time this year on Thurs- day, 10 December. In his report to Senate President Eliot said the Board of Gov- ernors had received several designs for a fieldhouse for the 1991 Canada Games and that two of these proposals are receiving serious consid-

7 eration.

Concerns had been raised at a previous Sen-

ate meeting about the gen- eral design and safety of the Belvedere Avenue entrance to the University. This situa- tion is now under advisement of the city of Charlottetown.

The Curriculum, Course Change, and Calendar Com- mittee made an extensive re- port. Senate approved a modification of the credit system at the Veterinary College. Now 77 semester hours of credit are given for the first two years of study; under the new system 76 hours of credit will be given. One semester hour of credit will be given for each of two hours of lecture, two hours of

lab, and one hour of seminar per week. As well, courses for the third and fourth years of study at the Vet College were approved.

Several changes have been made in the Polit- ical Studies program. Those majoring in that subject wil! have to complete a core of six required courses, all at the 200 level. One each of these required courses is in the area of Canadian politics, comparative politics, and in- ternational politics and there are three in the area of political theory. Ten new courses were approved and six courses were deleted from the program.

Senate approved five new courses in Classics that deal with Greek and Roman Civi- lization, Athens, and the Ro- man Empire.

The Academic Review and Plan- ning Committee made two recommendations to Senate based onthe report of the
