Scarlet fever is quite prevalent in Souris at present, in consequence of which the public schools have teachers allowed to go home on a_ holiday.
The{Minister of Marine and Fisheries has, in compliance with a petition lately sent to his Department, ordered a report to be made in regard to the erection of a light for tishermen on the North Shore.
A great many people are of opinion that the neat King’s County Exhibition should be held in Souris, where a suitable building for the purpose, the new skating rink, is now obtainable. The idea is worthy the serious consideration of the Government. It may be said that it; would be unfair to the farmers of the western part of the County to hold the Exhibition sc far east. Sc it would be if the show were held at Souris every year. 3ut the better way would be to hold it in each of the five electoral districts of the County alternately, beginning in the First District next year and moving westward the year after, and 30 on until each District in the County has had its turn.
The roads in the country are in fine con- dition, and hauling is going on in ali diree- tions by farmers getting out their firewood and longers. The river and sea ice which is this year over afoot and a_ half thick, and glib as glass, and affords excellent op- portunity for fast horse fanciers to lower the record.
Washington's Birthday was not forgotten by the Consular-Agent at Souris, C. C. Carlton, Esq., who floated the Stars aud Stripes in the breeze on the 22nd in honor of the ** father of his country.”

One of the latest fads at fashionable spas in England is the opening of cafes chantants by the ladies and gentlemen of the arts- tocracy. The King of the Belgians wishes his sil- ver wedding celebrated by devoting to the poor the money which the municipality proposes to spend for fetes. But the bur- ghers of Brussels say no; we must have these festivals in order to bring strangers to Brussels and make a little money out of them.
A romance in the life of Tennyson is an- nounced on the authority of Rev. Charies Yeld, of England, who claims to have found a versified tribute from the poet, ' written in his youth to a young lady named | Bradshaw. A Wonper or THe AGe.—The Truro Sun says: A few miles from Tatamagouche there is a child which, at its biith, a few ronths ago, had a father and mother, two grand fathers and two grand-mothers, three great- grandfathers and thiee great-grandmothers, one great-great-graudfather and one great great-grandmother—these two last being hus- band and wife—all living. <A few weeks ago one of the great-grandmothers died. Love or Country.—His Grace Archbishop O Brien is a firm believer in the Dominion— “the brighesttgem in the British crown.” Having been elected one of the vice-presidents of the Imperial Federation League of Canada, he says: “If we only could succeed in mak- ing all Canadians have confidence in the fut- vre of Canada, in its vast and varied resour ces, and its almost unlimited possibilities, our work would be easier.
