LAST GLIMPSES OF NEW YORK ' CITY '

What final glimpses of New York shall I share with you? The Emu-Sine? The sober? or perhaps it is best to touch briefly on both, since Life is like a twist of yarn, some threads bright-colored, some dark.

Sobfr. but amusing too, was the talk at a buffet dinner I at- tended the other evening. Many of the guests were leading authori- ties in the field of human behav- ior, yet what did they discuss most earnestly? Their own children! Even as you and your neighbours.

"What can my wife and I do?" asked one psychiatrist noted for his high fees as well as his success with his patients. "Naturally we wish to give our children the ad- vantages we can now afford, and never had, ourselves. A fine home, the best schools, the best summer camps, travel. But what of the future? Will Mary expect a young husband to give her the things she now takes for granted? Will Jim- mie choose a career that promises the most money, in the greatest hurry so he can live almost on the same scale? And if we deny them what. their friends have, what then?"

There is no final answer, of course, and to a lesser degree the same problem faces all parents who have established, with great effort, a more comfortable home than their children can hope to have, for many years. It depends .1 good deal on what other than matc-rial values, have been em- phzisized in the home.

This thought was probably in the heart of many present, but it v.ns a social evening and there iins relieved and general laughter vhcn another guest said to the perplexed father, "If you really l'.illlL to know what to do. I would suggest an easy solution. Cut your fees in half!"

Incidentally, the main dinner dish was "Beef Strogonoff." The meat is cubed and sauteed with onion, and the exotic touch is the r.eh sour cream in which it is sim- mered for a few minutes, after the

Only one thing is missing - the organ-grinder and the monkey, who enlivened the scene, yeius ago. They seemed to belong on Washington Square.

MRS. EDITH PEARL CIIAPPICLL -A host of friends were saddened on Sunday afternoon, June '1, to learn of the sudden death of Edith Pearl Chappell at her home in Sherbrooke. Although she had been in ill health since February. her unexpected passing came as a. great shock to all. The late Mrs. Chappell was in her 56th year. Born at Northsm, a daughter of the late Albert and Gertrude Gorrill, she lived most of her married life in Slierbmoke with the exception of four years which she spent in Ontario. The deceased was a valued mem- ber of St. John's Anglican Church and II life member of the Woments Auxiliary. She was public spirited and always willing to help in any- thing pertaining to the best inter- ests of the community. Left to mourn the loss of one whose life will ever be a beautiful memory are her sorrowing husband. two daughters and one son, Audrey. R. N, of summerside; Prowse at home: June of Calgary. who arrived

for her mother's funeral and a grandson Ronald. A daughter Eunice predeceased her 13 years
