MONTREAL. March 3—-(CP)— Butter prices remained firm on Montreal open produce markets today while eggs turned easier.

Graded egg shipments in cal-lots or lcss were quoted at 21 cents a dozen for grade A-large, 19 for A- medium and 18 for A-pullcts.

Butter was quoted at 25 1-2 to 26 cents a pound for carlots or less of No. 1 while lots to retailers were quoted at 27 for solids and 27 1-2 for prints.

Cheese was quoted at 13 to 13 l-4 cents a, pound for Ontarios while Quebecs were unqlloted.

i NEW YORK. March 3—Encour- aged by development; suggeting the avoidance of serious labor dif- ficulties in the steel industry, the Industrial Section of the market

, made an excellent showing yester-

day. The steels provided the chief buoyant note at theoutset but, as the day progressed the important automotive group swung into ling to show large net gains on the day in the two leading motor stocks. The change of tone in this group groin the dragging state of recent weeks was a factor which improv- ed the tone of the entire list. An exception was the utility group which remained relatively sluggish. The improvement of the rail group was not unanimous but the Dow Jones Rail average- closing at 58.90 now is within striking distance of

MONTREAL, March s-rcrid Livestock traders met one of the smallest markets of the year in eB-Plv declines today with ‘cattle market unestabllshed along with sheep and lamb division. A few calf sales were made while flog section held unchanged.

Receipts: Cattle none; calves 34; sheep and lamtbs two; hogs 133.

Calves offered were of common quality and sold from $6.25 t0 $7.

Bacon hogs, fed and watered, sold at $8.60 with $1 a hog prem- ium on selects. Butchers and heavles made $8.10 with extra heavies and lights at $7.60 and sows from $6.25 to $7. Around 100 bacon hogs sold rail grade at $11.50 with the usual cuts on of! grades and a premium on selects.

Prices were steady on all Mari- time markets with rail grade hogs at $11 while hogs ofl cars made $8.50 and sold off trucks at $8. Sows went at $8.30 rail grade and $6.15 weighed ofl cars.

Steers sold up to $6.75 with but- cher cows up to $4 while canners and cutters went from $1.75 to $2.50. Bulls brought up to $4.

Grass calves sold from $3.50 down with vealers up to $9-

Lambs sold from $9.50 down.
