Ar the regular meeting of the Caledonian Club, held last evening, the following ad- dress was passed unanimously, and ordered to be forwarded by His Honor the Lieut. Governor to the Governor-General for transmission to the Queen :
To the Queen's Most Excellent Majesty :
We, your Majesty’s dutiful and loyal sub- | jects, on behalt of the Caledonian Club of | Prince Edward Island, beg leave to express | our most hearty congratulations on the happy | idvent of the fiftieth year ot your Majesty's accession to the Throne of the United Empire. The Caledonian Club of this Province of the Dominion of Canada isa National Society, composed of Scotchmen and their descendants, whose chief objects are the promotion of a taste for the language and literature of Scot- land, and the perpetuation of that national and loyal sentiment characteristic of Scotch- men and their sons the world over.
The Caledonian Club feels itself called upon to express its deep felt gratitude to Almighty God for the many years of peace, prosperity and happiness which Scotchmen, in common with their fellow subjects at home and abroad, have enjoyed under your Majesty’s long and

Arrival of H. M. S. Canada.
H. M. S. Canapa arrived from Halifax this morning, and is lying off Queen’s Wharf. She will remain in port until Monday. The.Canada is a steam corvette, 2380 tons and 2430 horse power, and is built of steel and-iron, cased with wood. Her staff is made up as follows :—

At eight o’clock to-morrow the ship will dress. At twelve o'clock a jubilee salute of fifty guns will be fired, and the yards wlll be manned. Between every tenth gun there will be a grand few de jove, and at the conclusion three cheers for the Queen. At two o’clock in the afternoon the sailors and marines will take part in the military review and sham fight at the Park. After the review the seamen will be put through the manual and firing exercises; the marines through the bayonet exercises ; and the cutlass men through the cutlass drill. Atten o’clock in the evening the ship will be illuminated. They will also take part in the proceedings on Friday, and the Captain and officers will attend the jubilee entertainment in the Market Hall in the evening.

Masor R. A. Croriey, District Paymaster and Superintendent of Stores of the Province of Prince Edward Island, went out with a Detachment of the 97th (or ‘‘Earl of Ulsters”) Regiment, and the Mayor of the city in which the Regiment was then stationed, on the 27th of June, 1838, to proclaim the Queen’s Coro- nation. Major Cropley was at the time a non-commissioned officer. He is going into camp in Charlottetown, on the 27th of this month—still serving the Queen, after an un- broken and honorable connection with the army extending over fti‘ty years. There are few men in Canada with such a remarkable record as this. Before Confederation the gal. lant old Major occupied the position of Inspec- tor of the Volunteer Brigade of Prinze Ed- ward Island, and since then he has been on the District Staff. The old veteran is now the Senior Major, but two, in the Dominion;
and is yet, we are happy to say, as active,

Town CLERK Fraser, of New Glasgow, N. S., some time ago ‘‘joked” R. 8. McCurdy, of the samme town, about the reputation of a woman riamed Mrs. Mason, whose portrait was exhibited in McCurdy’s window. Mrs. Mason brought suits for slander and has just secured verdicts against McCurdy for four thousand and against Fraser for two thousand five hun- dred. Thisis the most expensive joke ever reported in Nova Scotia.

Tue Dominion fishery protection crniser Vigilant, McLean, commander, sailed from St. Andrew’s Sunday morning to report at North Bay, P. E. Island, to protect the _fish- ery there. Lieut. Pratthas been transferred from the Vigilant and takes charge of a steam- er chartered by the government from Major A. McAdam for the protection of the fisheries in the district vacated by the Vigilant.— St. John Sun.
