really didn't want to know. It IHJUICI be most unpleasant to know something dreadful was going to happen. It was much better not to knoiv until it should happen. They couldnlt help being filled with dread. Dread is an awful feeling.

Farmer Brown's boy got to his feet and stepped back. Then Dan- ny suddenly realized that the way was clear for him to run out. Nan- ny didn't wait. She was right at his heels. How those two little Mice did run! There was no lit- tle path for them to run in, but somehow they managed to get through the grass at a surprising rate. Farmer Brown's boy laughed as he watched them. They ran as if they never intended to stop. In the grass they soon disappeared.

Of course their short legs could not .aka them a very great dis- tance. It was hard running in the K; grass. That is. it was until quite by accident they came to a little path. a very little path through the grass. It was so small a path that you or I probably wouldn't have noticed it had we been there. But it was a sure enough path. and Danny knew that it was a Mouse path. Some other Mouse lived in that neighborhood and had cut that little path through the grass. Danny and Nanny ran along it until they came to a place where another little path joined it. There they stopped to make sure they were not being followed and to de-
