° The UPEI Wind Symphony will be performing at the Dr. Steel Recital Hall on Friday, April 3, at 8pm. Under the direction of Dr. K. Simon, the Wind Symphony has prepared an exciting

i Z Z Gg and rewarding program that will feature many senior students who are performing in their final university concert.

The main influence upon the success of the UPEI Wind Symphony as an ensemble is the dedication of its director. Simon is also a well known adjudicator, and clarinetist. Before joining the faculty of music at UPEI and assuming the position of chair, Simon was a music educator in the Newfoundland public school system for many years.

: r The contrasting selection of pieces chosen for this concert promises to offer something of 7 9 nivers ity interest for every listener. The wild and contrasting sections of Africa, by Robert W. Smith, should be as exciting to listen to as it is for the members of the symphony to perform. Chester by William Schuman, Canzona by Peter Mennin, and Havendance by David R. Holsinger are

Avenue standard wind band selections that are individually and collectively great pieces of music.

Michael Ross, of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, will be the featured student conductor of the UPEI Wind Symphony. Ross was honoured with this position after an audition process. His

The Rhapsody for alto saxophone by Wilford L. Hulcombe will feature soloist Kevin

> 7 Maclean of Charlottetown. Maclean is a well known soloist on the alto saxophone. Among N orth Ri V c I many of his accomplishments, he was the first ever saxophonist to be the guest soloist with the PEI Symphony Orchestra. Ross, Maclean, and all of the senior members of the Wind Symphony Phone 892-31 12 will be paying tribute to the many things they have learned during their time at UPEI by

demonstrating a high calibre performance in their final concert.

The evening’s performance will only cost you $3.00 if you are a student, and $5.00 otherwise. Be sure to get to the hall early to get a good seat; most Wind Symphony concerts have a full house.
