A Prerry Tati Story.—A Mapleton cor- respondent of the Sackville Transcript writes : OMe. James Nelson, of this place, has a field whieh yielded this season 690 bushels of potatoes per acre, which if sold at 50 cents per bushel (a price easily obtained) would ameuat to $345, This field is planted with young fruit trees, which if bearing fruit would be almost impessible to estimate the value.”

We beg again to call the attention ef the sity authorities to the disgraceful state of the Brighton Road sidewalk. Under the sidewalk there is a drain or gutter about four feet deep; several whele planks have rotted and fallen in, making it very dangerous for foot passengers. if attentiea is not given to this, the city may expect heavy damages for broken legs before long. There is also a dangerous hole near the bridge, in which a plank has been stuck end up for the last two months.

Tar Porsto Marner. — Advices received by potato buyers in this Provinces on Satur- day evening, show that the New York potate market has been ‘‘ demoralized.” Four large ateamers from Germany have arrived at that city with heavy cargoes of potatoes. These, with large arrivals from all parts, have caused a heavy decline in the market and prices have fallen from $3 25 to $2.25 per barrel. This report operates seriously upon dealers here. A prominent feature of display at York- sown yesterday was the salute to the Brit- ish flag. About sundown the Britieh flag was shown on the Trenton and a gun fired. Instantly, the other ships ran up the same eolors, and gun answered gun along the line, and from the distant camps down the river camie answering explosions telling that the army joins the mavy in this ovusual and graceful act of courtesy towards the mother couniry. Now the yards ~are manned, and the final salute given the American flzg, in which the two French ships join, and so with a hearty greeting to Great Britain, against whose armies and fleets America’s hostile guns clamored for liberty and independence one hundred years ago, and to Queen Victoria, who has in this time of sorrow won a new title to the loving respect of every American heart, the Centennial of the great victory at York- town encs.

The Times says that Englishmen long ago lost the feeling of soreness to take umbrage at the Yorktown celebration, but they were unprepared to find the occasion upon which a British disaster was celebrated serving to rivet the bouds of union between the two countries. President Arthur's graceful words and the grateful regard wherewith he spoke of the Queen, will make a deep impression on the hearts of Englishmen.

The Yorktown centennial was celebrated in several quarters in this city. The tri- color and stars and stripes floated from many buildings. The French press is en- thusiastic over the event.
