SYDNEY.t Dec. x-(CP)-Syd- ney Millionaires continued their lnastery over last-place Glace Bay Miners with a 4-2 victory to- night in -a Maritime Major Hoc- key League game before 1,463 fans. ' Although a wide-open contest. there were only two penalties and the holiday crowd left pleased wltil'the performance.

Miners made a thrilling bid in the third period and only the spectacular goaltending of Nick Pllisodny kept them from down- jug Johnny I-Ioreck's second-place rlub. It was I-loreck's first win since he took over Monday.

Other than agree- ing with the- statements that his defense was weak and three of the goals were of the easy variety Murph was not too interested in talking hockey. In his reticense to talk Murph was probably thinking about get- ting a. forward combination that can score goals. Probably no combination would have worked against the Halifax defense last night. Dugger Mac. Neil had his blueline crew "up" for the game and they played it tough all the way. And to our way of thinking they played it :1. legally on a lot of occasions with- out recelving what was justly theirs. The 1953 racing season in the Maritimes will see the opening of an ultra-modern night racing plant at Summerside.

Several of the leading business men of the town. along with A- merican partles have incorporated a company to be known as the Sum- merside Driving Park.

Already extensive work has been done. the race track was complete- ly rebuilt this full. new turns were made and the track was completely covered with black loam. good foot- ing is insured with minimum jar to horses legs. This should make one of the fastest tracks in Canada and be an ideal spot for spring training.

An extensive building program will start as early in the spring as possible. It is proposed that new barns will be built and they will bc well lighted.

Under, consideration at the pre- sent time also is a completely re- novated grand stand situated where the present one now stands. A large extension will be built on the north end of the present structure if plans now before the committee materialize. '

The win made little difference in the mighty gap-now 26 points- between Hawks and Beavers. Saint John has 20 fewer points than sec- ond place Frederlcton Capitals.

Big Plans Underway For 1953 Racing Season

A green Christmas. our first in many years, was our lot in 1952. To many of us Christmas is not complete without a blanket of clean white snow and the jingle of sleigh bells. I'll admit a snow covered countryside, especially if the trees are laden with its white burden, lends a Christmassy touch that nothing else can replace.

While we humans may have grumbled a bit at the sea of mud and drab mist laden sky that greeted us on Christmas morning, it meant full stomachs for the birds and animals that constitute our wildlife.

Just. two animals, to my know- ledge, would stand in gain by a foot. or more of snow-the rab- bits and field mice. The rabbits are too conspicuous in their snowi white coats and many eyes spot. them as they hotp along the run- ways amid the green spruce swamps. Mice too have no extra covering for their runways and nests and a. fox can pin point a mouse in grass, no difference how thick and matted, in nothing llat. Oh well. I think Nature intended mice and rabbits to be a meal tic- ket. or staple diet for all forms of winged and four footed predators ...so what. are we worrying over?
