The brig Curaco, from Curaco, reports that on Aug. 29th, in lat. 27 25, lon. 69 54, fellin with the brig S A. Snow, from Bridgewater, N. S., for Havana, dismasted, full of water and sinking. Took off the captain and seven men and brought them here. The S. A. Snow was wrecked in a hurricane on August 26th, 128 miles south- east of Bermuda. She was 209 tons and awned at Liverpool, N. 8.

The statement of O. P. Silvie about the City of Vera Cruz disaster says that Capt. Van Sice was cool and courageous through- out and there is no reason to believe that he did not remain at his post until taken off by a superhuman agency.

The grand military review on Sanday was a great success. There were thirty thousand troops en the ground and man- cguvered 8} londidly. The King was every- where greeted with the greatest affection and enthusiasm.

A collective note on reforms in Armenia was presented tothe Porte on Saturday. It searchingly criticizes the Turkish note on the same subject, declares that the reforms therein promised are inadequate, warns the Porte against seeking an excuse for delay, and demands the decentralization and re- storation ef order.

It is understeod that Dean Stanley will pay a final visit in 1881 te the United States, in company with Thomas Hughes. His visit will be of a special character, for the purpose of investigating church ques- tions in the United States.

Ida Townsend, while amusing herself at West Brighton Beach, Coney Island, on Sunday, and showing to what great height ahe could be swung, was dashed to the ground from a distance of thirty feet. It was found that her spine was fractured and her lower limbs paralized.

At a picnic twelve miles from here on Saturday a difficulty arose between some drunked boys, which involved three hro- thers named Smith and three brothers yamed Hammond, and a half brother of Hammonds named Barnard. Acree Smiths party proved the more expert with weapons. Acree, a boy of eighteen years, is killed, and the Hammonds are all wounded—twe mortally. The Smiths and the Hammonds are cousins. The parties who did the shoot- ing avoided arrest. They are sens of G. W. Smith, a justice of the peace and a respect- able citizen.

Charlies D. Gambrill, of the well-known firm of architects, Gambrill & Ticken, shot himselt through the head this afternoon in hig office. Overwork and consequent ner- yousness, producing temporary insanity, are given as the cause for the suicide.

A telegram received at Interior Cepart- ment from Indian Agent Page, dated Southern Ute agency, Sept. 6th, says :— ‘*Ouray’s death doves not effect pending negutiations. One hundred and tifty-six Advat male Southern Utes have signed treaty since his death and more will sign.”
