Is it to go to church to-day,

Does every sanctimonious face Denote the certain reign of grace! Does not a phiz that scowls at sin, 0ft veil hypocrisy within ?

Is it to make our daily walk,

And of our own good deeds to talk, Yet often practice secret critne,

And thus unis-spend our precious time?

Is it for sect and creed to fight,

To call our zeal the rule ofright, \Vhen what we wish is, at the best, To see our church eXcel the rest!

Is it to wear the. Christian dress, And [are to all mankind profess, To treat with scorn the humble poor, And bar against them every door!

Oh, no ! religion is not this:

Its fruit more sweet and fairer it:— Its precept this : to others do,

As you would have them do to you.

It erieves to hear an ill report,

And scorns with human woes to sport— Ol' others’ deeds itspcaks no ill,

But tells of good or else keeps still.

And does religion this impart ?

Then may its influence fill tny heart; Oh ! haste the blissful.joyful day. \Vhen all the earth shall own its sway!

’I‘ns Reruns or Senora—After having passed the dreary season of winter. we are again cheered with the pleasing return of spring. Vege- tation has, as it were, by enchant- ment, burst forth the iron bands of winter. All nature is new clothed with verdurc, and ornamented with flower: of the most exquisite beauty. The beasts of the field have a table set before them which gratifies their appetite and sustains theirlife. The " little songsters of the grove" have begun to warble their sweet notes amidst the green houghs ofthe lofty oak. Songs of gratitude are every where raised by “all creatures and by all things” save thoughtless man alone. What are his prospects, and his employments, that he should stand back and refuse his song ’! “’ill be not blush to own, that this beautiful world was fitted up for him, that to him is given “ dominion over the beasts ofthe field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea?”

Are the blessings ofhealth, of peace, and of plenty, of no importance in, the estimate of life?—-and are not, these, and all other blessings, that gift of our kind Father? But, to crown the whole, it is he alone enjoys the glorious prospect of immortality beyond this life. Let him stand forth, (as first in rank so first in sea- son,) attune his Voice, and lead the universal choir of this lower World, in songs ofgratitude and praise, to the great Mas’rsa of the feast.
