igo Mise Hattie Hashagan, whose decora- tive paintings bave delighted thousands at the Art exlibitions, arranged with an In- dian named Thunder Cloud to pose as_her model for a picture of wild western life. Thunder Cloud, whois a big strapping fellow, straight as an arrow, with piercing black eyes, a brighter face than most Indians, and altogether, a noble represent- ative of his race, fell in love with the ar- tiet, and now they are married. Thunder Cloud was born in Cavghnawaga country in Canada, about forty years ago, and a few years later was carried as & papoose to Nortbera Minnesota. His mother was a fuil biood Sioux, and his father a half breed Chippewa. When twenty years of ace he wastaken to Europe by Buffalo Bill and was the most admired of the red- skins who appeared with the Wild West Show before the nobility. Since his return to New York he has earned a good living by posing aud ~ selling Indian curiosities. In the city directory, Thunder Cloud's name appears a8 Dominic Plante, but to their friends the coup'e are known as Mr. and Mrs. Thunder Cloud.

way in Ireland. Thirty years ago or more the Fenian was denounced as a fool anda villain of the deepest dye. Later exe perience with the dynamiting assassin wakes, by comparison, the Fenian who proposed te fight in the open a decidedly manly fellow. He must still be set down in the category of fools, though. Ireland is too small, even if it was united, to fight Great Britain, and Ireland is not united. There is only misery abead for those who enter the new scheme.
The Turkish government tribunal a few days ago sentenced to fifteen years im- prisonmeat each a nutsber of Mussulmans who were convicted of taking part in the recent riots. They are the rioters who have been tried and found gnilty since the late massacres, The tribuna! also passed sentence of death upon all of the Armen- ians who are known or suspected of hav- ing taken part in the seizure of the Otto- man bank. In this list is included an Armenian who was surrendered by che Belgian legation, with which he had taken refuge, upon condition that he would be rekased after he bad been examined by the tribunal. The Belgian minister has sent a peremptory note to the porte de- manding the man’s liberation.
