A CANADIAN, named Stewart, 26 years of age, employed as a fireman oo-the steamer Nellie, plying between Seattle and Snoho- mish, was scslded to death on that boat » week or two ago. Tur Pugwash correspondent of the Sack- ville Post says that Sir Charles Tupper is negotiating for the purchase of Mr. J. W. Lowe’s farm for stock raising purposes, The price asked is $14,090). The farm is beauti- fully situated, and consists of, besides a large jot of upland, some 120 acres of prime marsh in one lot. The buildings are located near a stream which ie utilized to furnish power for threshing, wood-sawing, &c, It is a very valuable property. Mr. Lowe has gone into raising Polled Angus cattle.

Disasters in the Past.

A Startling Discovery.

A party of policemen visited a house on West Twelfth-street, Chicago, on the morning of the 23rd, in search of Christ Komnes, the supposed shooter of Louis Friedman and Bernard Barowsky. They did not find their man, but in a trunk in Kommes’ bedroom they found a revolver, four round shelis of lead about three inches in diameter, a cartridge box, a piece of iron pipe with a projecting fuse at the end and about six yards of coil. A little book beside the shells explained their use ; on the outside printed in German was the

plosives, mercury, bombs, incendiary im- plements, and poison, edited by Johanna Mostand, and published by The Interna- tional Zeitung Verein, No. 167 William Street, New York. The police beat a hasty retreat. When they concluded to go back and make a more thorough investiga- tion they found that the shells weighed about five pounds, and that they were all lined with plaster of paris—only one of them was apparently loaded. In the top were little holes just the size of each of about fifty cape found in the cartridge box. The piece of tube was closed at both ends, but a little piece of cotton stuck out of a crack. It is thought to be full of gun cot- ton. The fuse is soft inside, but with a hard, tarred exterior. The officers found in an adjoining reom a Springfield rifle, a box of cartridges, and a pot for melting lead, of which there was a large quantity in the room. All the stuff was taken to police headquarters.
