(Sezorat ro Tae Examiver.] Lonpow, Aug, 4.—According to a spe- cial despatch frora Bhanghai, August 3, the advancing column of the allies was

reported here (yesterday) to have reached @ point 35 miles beyond Tien Tein. Nothing from any other point corrober- ates this statement. In fact The Standard goes so far as to say that it fears that the real advance, apart from the preliminary meaeures, has not yet begun.

Tien Tsin despatches, dated July 30th, tell of an action which is termed a recon- noissance between the Japanese and Chinese, two miles beyond Haiku Arsenal in which the Japanese withdrew after suffering thirty casualties.

The Tein Tsin correspondent of the Standard,under date of July 27\b, declares that the Americans and Germans have been ordered to move forward without waiting for the British.

A Cheft pidespatch, August 1, announces the safety of all the Americans in Pekin, and the reception of a letter from Dr. Ch’ltman, dated Pekin, July 20, saying that on the previous day, Sir Claude Mac- donald had agreed to a truce, providing Chinese come no closer,and adding “ we bope this means relief, but having de. feated the Chinese we are fearful now o° treachery. All are exhausted with the constant waiting, fighting and digging of trenches.”
