able, and the iitile fellows by working bard, mavaged to appropriatea sufficient quae tity to render them unueually expansive. [n a meadow nearby games of all kinds were contested, while from the graud stand sounds of must, sweet were emitted from a string orchestra and the school choir. All present were delighted, and the old people said they attended no picnic so good since thirty years ago. In the even- ing @ soiree in Mr. Ready’s honor was held at the residence of Mra. Wm. Mann, where the young foik passed a most pleasant and enjoyable time.

A Curious Case.

Panis, July 4.—A verdict has been ren- dered in the curious case of Getron V. Dutuc. The plaintiff and defendent, who were neighbours, traded wives some time ago, and the exchange did not disturb their friendehip until M. Getron realized that allthe children of the families bad fallen to hisehare. He was supporting not only the two chilnren of his first mar- riage, but also the three of the former Mme. Dutuc, now Mine. Getron. He de- manded that M. Datuc pay him half of the cost of rearing the children, He lost the suit, the court declaring that the Dutuce owe nothing ita the Getrons, becanse the obligation of parens to briog up theirchildren is not an in solido obligation. Consequently the par- ent who has alone discharge the obligation cannot afterwards claim payment from the other of half the sum he or she bas thus voluntarily disturbed.

To her family, brothers and sisters, it is a consolation in their sore affliction to know that she died a peaceful, happy death, fully resigned to the Divine Will, and with firm hope of eternal bliss. The funeral took place on the 29th ult, to St. Mary’s Church, where a Requium High Mass was celebrated by the pastor, Rev. D F McDonald, after which the interment took place witn the usual ceremonies.
