canadienne des étudiant(e)s This fall the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS), Canada’s national organization of post-secondary students, will be publishing a magazine, The Student Advocate. This magazine will be distributed to stu- dents associations all across Canada and will seek to provide a forum for different perspectives on student life and issues we face. Submissions are welcome from any student. A theme for the first issue (sche- duled to be distributed on November) is “‘Is it still possible to be a full-time student (in light of the economic realities we face)?”’

Submissions may be dropped off with the Student Union Vice-President External, Nadine De Wolfe, at

the Barn (566-0648).

MUSIC SOCIETY

QUESTION: Is there really a Music Society on campus?

ANSWER: There sure is!

Now, please don’t feel bad if you didn’t get the correct answer to that question; not many people do. In reality, very few students are aware of our organi- zation’s existence. We are out to change that fact, however, and this year, with the help of our new executive, we have some great things in store.

Our society was formed in 1987 and our goals are:

1. To establish a scholarship in our name for music students

2, To promote awareness of the UPEI Music Society and the UPEI Music Department and to develop an appreciation of music among the general public, particularly university and high school students, through the advocacy of music as a legitimate form of art

Upcoming events include a Music Society pub (Nov. 14) and, of course, our annual play-a-thon.(24 hours of continuous music in the Steele Recital Hall - Nov. 22-23) We also plan to start a recycling program and we Challenge all other societies to do the same.

HISTORY SOCIETY

The year has begun witha good start for the History Society. In our recent bake sale, we managed to raise over 60 dollars. Ourexecutive is composed of our President: Jill MacMicken, an honours student; Vice- President: Colleen MacClusky, a senior; Treasurer: Monica MacKenzie, asophmore and Secretary: Philip Stewart, a honours student. We have planned our first historical film for the semester -- Roots. There is also planning of a pizza party and of course, the wine and cheese party sometime in November.
