A despatch from Pera on Friday, says : It is stated that the Porte is disappointed with Caratheodon Pasha, its plenipoten- tiary to Congress, and possibly Safvet Pacha, will himself go to Berlin with final and irrevocable instructions. Should Con- gress result unsatisfactorily to Turkey, the opposition will probably attempt a ris- ing. News from Jerasova shows that

Tue Supreme Court adjourned its sitting, owing to three of the jurors sitting on the case pending being secretaries of School Districts, and obliged to attend three of the school meetings held throughout the Island to-day.

I, O. O. F.—The Installation of officers for “ St. Lawrence” Lodge has been deferred until Friday evening next. ‘The officers elect for both ‘‘ St. Lawrence” and ‘ Wil- dey” Lodges will then be installed into their respective chairs.

THERE was a very good attendance at the market to-day. Prices were as follows :— Butter (fresh), from 17 to 20 cts. per lb. Eggs, fronf 11 to 12 cts. per dozen. Straw- berries, from 10 to 12 cts. per quart. Chickens, from 40 to 60 cts. per pair. Fowl, from 50 to 60 cts. per pair. Turkeys from 80 cts. to $1.00.

Heaiey’s Hreernian Minstrens gave their farewell entertainment, in aid of the Sons of Temperance, in the Market Hall, last evening, to avery large house. The performances of the minstrels were excel- lent and drew loud applause froin the audi- ence. The success which atiended the Company during its short season in this City speaks highly for its future prosperity.

On Friday night last, about 11 o’clock, a man named Hugh Connolly was assaulted by three men at the West End of this city and robbed of $40. Six suspivious persons were arrested for the robbery: and brought before the Stipendiary this morning. Mr. Connolly identified two of the prisoners, Wm. Byers and Thos. Noonan, as the parties who robbed him; but they produced sufficient evidence to prove an libi. Two of the prisoners arrested were remanded 8 days and the others were discharged.

We fear there is no truth in the report that the period of service of the Gevernor General is to be extended. An enterprising member of the staff of the Boston Globe in- terviewed His Excellency on the subject, and with the following result :

According to the Napanee Standard, Mr. McDougall’s candidature is meeting with great success. - Mr. Nicholas Flood Davin, the talented and eloquent Irish orator, and author of ‘*'The Irishman in Canada,” is the Conser- vative candidate for the Commons in Hal- dimand. Mr. Davin’s chances of election are reported excellent, and he would be a valuable acquisition to the Canadian Parlia- ment,

The Grits up in Bruce County are as much agitated and frightened over the coni- templated visit this week to that county by

the Hon. Senator Macpherson as if a band of fenians were threatening to invade that

part of Canada. ‘The grand and noble Senator will so effectually show up the so- called party of Purity that the prospect of any Grit being elected will be very slim in- deed.
