Chaplaincy Council Of P.E.’I.

On the first Tuesday eve- ning of each month the Ch— aplaincy Council of Prince Edward Island meets on cam— pus.

The Council was formed in 1969 to provide Chaplaincy service to the university of Prince Edward Island as well as other provincial in- stitutions when the occasion might arise. It was created to enable the Christian Ch- urch to extend the ministery of Jesus Christ to the Uni- versity of Prince Edward Is- land Campus Community.

The council is unique in Canada because of the var— iety of denominations which cooperate in supervision of the work of the Chaplain. Seven different denominati— ons participate in the mem-

bership of the Council: th- ese are, Anglican, Baptist, Presbyterian, United Church, Salvation Army, Christian Reformed and Lutheran. Re- presentatives are appointed from local congregations & and the University of Prince Edward Island Student Body. The first Chaplain to se— rve under the direction of

MacLean. Mr. MacLean served the Council until July, 1973, when he returned to the parish at Trinity United Church in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. In September, 1973, the Council appointed Rev. Ian Glass to succeed Mr. MacLean. Mr. Glass had pre- viously served as minister of St. Mark's Presbyterian Church in Sherwood P.E.Io

tion of space for new chapel facilities. Another matter concurrently under review by the counCil is a study of the role of the Chaplain on campus. The Council would Welcome comments from anyone on this topic,_

The Council from time to time has discussions with ” the Roman Catholic Bishop and his advisors who super- vise the work of the Roman Catholic Chaplain on campus. These discussions are aimed at providing, where possihfle, a unified approach by the Chaplains toward the Campus Ministery.
