The home, with all its contents, was destroyed.

Paul Arseneau was taking his mother down a stairway when it collapsed. He had to be carried out but the aged woman could not be reached. Her remains were recovered later.

Leon helped his grandfather. Peter Arseneau, to escape. They suffered burns of varying degree, as did Mrs. Rivers in making her way from the flaming house.

The ilre apparently started from the kitchen stove, which Mrs. Paul Arseneau lighted before leaving with a son. ZAGREB. Yugoslavia, Oct, 11- (AP)-- Archbishop Aiojzijc Step inac, head of the Roman Catholic Church in Yugoslavia, today was convicted by a copies court of allegedly sponsor ng organization of Ustashi terrorists. He was sen- tenced to 10 years’ imprisonment at hard labor.

The 48-year-old Archbishop re- ceived the verdict without emotion looking straight at the court.

Apparently resigned to such a verdict. Archbishop Btepina: in- sisted throughout his trial "my conscience is clear." and l-n one of the few times he ad ressed the court. declared that "when there ls peace. . . there wll be none who will say a word against my arch- bishopric."

The seeding and harvesting of farm crops in Prince Edward Island was carried on under ideal wea- ther condltions during the year 1940. Fine weather has been en- countered thrcughout and up to the present date crops of uniform- ly good quality have been gather- ed with s minimum of delay. Un- fortunately, continued dry weather prevailed throughout the growing season and resulted in reduced yields, particularly in hay pasture and the growth of straw. Even under these conditions, however. a remarkably good production of grain has been secured.

The clover crop suffered the greatest setback, wlntered poorly and the new meadows turned off one of the lowest yields 1n our history. The supply of hay will consequently be inadequate and ls causing some concern among dairy producers, Root crops have withstood conditions and the ro- spects of reasonably high yelda are excellent. By careful manage- ment and the judicious use of home grown supplements and im- ported raw gm-ins under the ro- visions of the Free Freight; Po icy. the general situation may be term- ed reasonably satisfactory.

Cattle Prices Good

I Remarkably good prices havd prevailed for milk cows and large numbers have been exported to United States Canadian and New- foundland po nts. This exodus is still in progress and shows no evidence of abatement. Keen mar- kets wlll no doubt per-veil for some years for dairy cattle and these should rovide an incentive to use high cass bulls as well as to provide for an improved system of feeding and management. Marked progress has been made by all breeds of cattle through constructive breed policies. Exports of breeding stock have been made at favourable prices, At the some time a large number of importa- tions of high class sires and fe~ males have marked this year's progress, scores of new breeders of registered stock have become established and. in order to take care of this development and the export demand, Provincial herds have been severely taxed to pro- vide required material.
