A Coasrcax Banana—On the morning of April 29th, says a letter from Corsica, the gendarmerie sta- tioned at Sartena were about to withdraw from a wood near Grossa, Corsica, where they had been watch- ing all night for some robbers, when a noted bandit named Aphonsi, sud- denly appeared well armed. He fir- ed two sbots at: them, neither of which took effect. The gendarmes fired in their turn, and a ball passed through his chest. He was going to surrender when his young sister rush- ed forward and cried out “ Courage, brother ! never give in ; die like a man!” Alphonso again seized his arms and commenced firing. A gen- darme was soon wounded, and the population ofGrossa having come to
