The shooting for the Elcho Shield, took place at Wimbledon to-day between the Jrish, Scotch and English teams. The Irish riflemen were victorious. 1600 against 1589 for the Scotch, and 1564 for the Englishmen.

We are told of a coffee house which was established in Boston some sixteen months ago, and which is now clearing $1,000 per month. It has elegant fixtures, billiard tables, a cigar stand, and every adjunct of a well- furmished saloon, except intoxicating drinks. The history of this venture, in contrast with that of scores of similar attempts elsewhere, is instructive to the benevolently inclined.

Tue tug boat ‘Frank C. Batt” returned home from Basque Island, Cape Breton, this morning, with »lessrs. Lewis Carvell, R. F. Quirk, Benjamin Rogers, and k, W. Dawson, who went there on Tuesday last to examine the brigt. ‘‘Isabella” which was wrecked on that Island. We understand that they found the vessel lying fall of water, and they report that she will be a total wreck, and that part of her cargo will be saved in a damaged con- dition. The tug made the run both up and down in excellent time, and the gentlemen aboard enjoyed themselves well, and are high- ly pleased with their trip.

Hymeneat.—Our genial and popular towns- man, Mr, William H. MacNeill, has joined the ‘grand army of benedicts, having taken for his life partner, on Friday evening last, Miss Jennie McKay, one of Prince Edward Island’s most charming daughters. We wish the happy couple a long life of peace and

Mr. MacNeill, accompanied by bis bride, left on Monday afternoon train for Charlottetown, where he is to assume the management of the branch Merchants Bank at that place, for a few weeks, during the absence of Mr. Arnaud; then he will go to Souris for a short time before returning home. —Juurnal.

1. Abolition of Sunday work, except as extra service.

2. Eight hours to be aday’s work and seven hours a night’s work.

3. Women and men to receive equal pay for equal work.

4, A general increase of fifteen per cent. on wages.

The directors of the Western Union were disposed to accede to some of the demands made by the operators, but refused tw grant others, and an order was thereupon issued by the Executive Committee of the Oper- ators Brotherhood that all the members of the order should leave their posts, which was forthwith obeyed, and nearly the whole body of operators in the United States and Canada, connected with the brotherhood, numbering, it is said, over twelve thousand, left their offices and have not returned to work yet.

The telegraphers in the W. Union Office left their instruments at 12.05 p. m. They coolly went to the coat-rooms, donned their hats and coats, and left the building. About twenty-five men and thirty girls are left in the operating room.

On the appearance of the men on Broad- way the crowd gave them three cheers, and the cheers were repeated again and again, as the elevators emptied the strikers by dozens.
