The James Allau was awarded first place on time allowance, and is thus the winner of the beautitul Challenge Cup presented by Mr. Jastice Hodgson.

The ancient capital was gsy with bunt - ing, and the tea held in aid of the town ball was very successful. We must cons gratalate the tea committee on the excel~ lent Order maintained througbout the day, —the Guardien’s report of disorderly con- duct to the contrary notwithstanding.

Concert anp Danoe.—The guests st the Muich House, Stanhope, gave a most successful concert an evening or two ago. The concert was held in tbe dining room of the hotel, which was prettily decorated aod illuminated for the occasion. A eplendid Jiterary and musical programme was rendered, and a most enjoyable dance followed. The guests included Cclovel Orr and wife aud party from Da'vey aod a number of the guests at the Cliffe.
